Explaining 'redneck' to a Brit banker with surprising political leanings..
A neighborhood friend has collaborated with an English gentleman on a soon to be published book.

My friend invited him to visit here and so we met.
He was curious about the term 'redneck'.
I asked him if he considered it to be a pejorative.
"Well...yes, actually."

I explained that it was a complicated term.
It could be good, bad, or relatively neutral, depending on who's using it and how. We had a long and fairly intricate conversation.
Too long to try and reproduce here.

But I was delighted to learn that this retired director of an English bank whose name you would instantly recognize is a LABOUR party member.
One of US!
WooHoo!
