That ASPCA ad with Willie Nelson's
You were always on my Mind.

One we have loved that song (and the Dennis Brown cover) for too many reasons and two I love cats and dogs.
What a tearjerker.

1. I can't watch those...
...they are heart rending. But thank you for reminding me that I need to join the ASPCA.

2. Yep...
Indeed. At least I'm not the only one who's eyes well with tears every time one of those commercials comes on, without fail. They always come on MSNBC late at night, it's like clockwork.

10. Nor can I.
I have to change the station. Of course, I can't even go by the adoption area at the PetSmart to see all the kitties that are in need of homes. Wish I could take them all home with me. I must say, however, that I find the use of Willie's "You Were Always on My Mind" a bit incongruous. If the animals were actually on their owners' minds, they wouldn't be neglected. I guess it's the ASPCA's minds that they're always on...

3. me too. Painful. I've had 5 rescue dogs so far...
...and while I've loved them all and seen them blossom, I haven't forgotten the ones I didn't take home.

5. We rescue stray cats
I've learned not to become too attached because they come and go as they like.

7. aw. Good for you. I love cats too!
When I get old and I can't lift my sweeties any more when they get old and/or sick, I'll have to get cats instead. Wish I could have both, but I'm afraid of mixing rescued dogs and cats. Raised from puppies and kittens, yeah. But adult rescues - scary.

6. My dog...
My dog is a beagle/Jack Russell terrier mix named Larry. We adopted him back in March 08. People had actually adopted him before we did, but actually had the nerve to take him back after two weeks. Even though that's the most pitiful thing ever, I'd glad they did, because our whole family gives him lots of love and treats him like a little baby, and he loves us too!

8. Be glad they took him back
Many people like the idea of having a pet, but are incapable of understanding the love, patience, time and nurturing required. :grouphug:

9. one of my rescues was returned, too...
...after being placed in a foster home and just escaping being put down. She's one of the sweetest most obedient dogs I've ever had - zero problems - and they took her back - after 2 weeks - to the foster home because this person's dogs didn't like her. Fuckeads. OF COURSE they didn't like her - what did they expect? Any new dog threatens the established pecking order. Gotta give them time. One of my Dal's didn't like her too - she snapped at her and bit her numerous times. I yelled and punished her for it, but Sandy took care of it... next time the Dal bit her, she bit her right back. That was 6 years ago. There's been peace in the valley ever since.

Yep, and I'm SO glad they took her back. If they hadn't, I wouldn't have this sweet loving dog in my life. :)
