(For those of you who don't know, Kevin Gilbert is the guy that gave Sheryl "The Demon Beast" Crow her break. The Tuesday Night Music Club was him and his songwriting friends. Go check out his albums "Thud" and "The Shaming Of The True", as well as Toy Matinee. Makes everything S.C. did after her first album sound like the sonic equivalent of a bloated rotting otter carcass.)
Yes, he's long gone, but the estate of Kevin Gilbert have finally opened the vaults and released two CDs and a CD/DVD combo of (mostly) previously unreleased material. The two CDs, "Nuts" and "Bolts" contain a wide cross section, from longer progressive stuff, to pop songs, to acoustic versions of some of his classics. (Some of it may already be familiar to the obsessive Kevin Gilbert fans who have the 17 CD set of unofficial studio and live material.) The CD/DVD combo is an expanded version of the "Thud Live" album, with two previously unreleased tracks ("Tears Of Audrey" and "Smash", the latter being the vocal performance used on "Shaming of the True"). The DVD contains the full show (except for the last track, for which no video exists, and is only on the CD) as edited by Gilbert himself. It also includes bonus footage, including very old Giraffe video (NOT "The Lamb", though) and a 32 minute interview.
Why are you still reading this? Go order them all. The DVD comes with a certificate you can mail in for a chance to win a signed (by KG...Kevin Gilbert, not Kyle Gass) copy of one of the original Giraffe CDs.
