The character played by James Stewart is loosely based on the lifestyle of Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas. And the judge in the film is Joseph N. Welch famous for confronting Sen. Joe McCarthy at the Army-McCarthy hearings saying, "Have you no sense of decency sir?" Great film worth watching again.

and I loved Lee Remick's performance too. Certainly one of Stewart's better roles-- and there are a lot of great performances of his to choose from!

Noms also for Best Picture and Arthur O'Connell and George C Scott for Supp. Actor. They all were caught up in the Ben Hur sweep that year.
