It's about 38 outside and I would say it's probably in the high 50's in here. It's pretty fucking cold in here, but I'm bundled up so it's not that bad.

For cheap heat though, I did buy a big candle at the dollar store and have been warming my fingers over it when they get cold.

1. Depends

My older brother refused to turn on the heat in his old apartment to save money. After he moved out we explained to him that it was a flat $30/month gas bill no matter how much he used.

I'm guessing that isn't your situation though.

3. Nope. I'm on straight up electric.
This apartment has horrible insulation though, so once it starts getting cold and you have the heat on it never stops running. Since money's tight right now, I'm trying to live on the cheap. Hell, if the keys on my laptop lit up I wouldn't even have a light on in the place.

4. Do you care what I think?
I'm not there with you, and if you're comfortable, I see no reason to characterise your choice in such a way.

5. No, I don't think so
unless its starts getting to "cold". I'm in the same boat currently, I don't want to start using propane until Nov, but hell since the end of Sept its been very tempting to turn it on...

Its currently 35 outside, 64 inside, so its not too bad yet...

6. I'm starting to get tempted.
It's currently 32 outside and I bet it's dropped to the low 50's in here. Time to get out another blanket.

8. Yes. Yes it is.
But it's your money and your choice.

Besides, a little well-planned discomfort is good for the soul. Maybe not self-flagellation, but a cold apartment will do.

9. I've done the same thing, so I don't think its cheap, you are being smart in saving money.
But, make sure you stay warm, even at 50+ degrees you can suffer hypothermia if you aren't careful.
