13. It just boggles my mind that any one likes Chris Berman
He's been making me dive for the remote for at least 20 years now...

17. There's much worse working for ESPN
Like Tim Hasselbeck and the awful feeling I can't explain that I get when I see his beady eyes on TV screen. There is also Colin Cowherd and Skip Bayless as well as countless others I go remote diving whenever I see them on ESPN.

24. Cowherd and Bayless are jackasses
I remember Bayless once putting down Public Enemy as nothing but hype, because we all know that a 50-something white guy in San Jose knows all about rap.

26. Hasselbeck's wife is the mindless twit on The View
which may explain "the awful feeling you can't explain that you get when you see his beady eyes on TV screen". Apparently he's a "Stepford Husband". :eyes:

Come to think of it, this may also explain why he has a job in the first place.

27. I knew that
I think maybe because I know who is wife is I get that 'awful feeling' but I swear he has his own effect. His opinion's are garbage as well. Shortly before the Falcons-Cardinals game last year he predicted the crowd will be quiet or a non-factor, then last Sunday morning he said (paraphrasing) 'It's louder in the Cardinals stadium then what most people think'. It's so like sports commentators to make a prediction then after they come out wrong then they come back and blame it on "most people". :eyes:

ESPN is connected to ABC in someway as well as Disney I believe. I think you're on to something about why Tim has a job.

31. At least ESPN has people that're entertaining or can speak clearly
CBS has Shannon Sharpe and he sounds like he can read at a 5th grade level and stutters/stammers throughout his speeches.

3. GOTTA be Tiger Woods.
They update us on what he's doing even when he's not playing, and if he's in 200th place, they'll still make sure to show his highlights over those that are actually winning.

5. True
Even when Tiger Woods makes errors they show those replays of him hitting it in the trees. They'll show the winner making the winning shot but always Tiger regardless of how he plays.

10. Absolutely.
I know ESPN is based in Connecticut so it's obvious as to why, but they really should be in a sports-neutral zone like Wyoming or Montana.

although to be fair, they DID start as a Connecticut station. So like everyone and everything on the East coast, their world view is substantially myopic

6. Joba Chamberlain, no doubt about it
But that's not what I was thinking about this morning. I was watching the talking chuckleheads tut-tut about the screw job call that (wonder of wonders) happened to favor the Yankees. And in the playoffs, no less! Well, it was unfortunate, to be sure. And the umpires usually get it right. And it was just one call. No point in instituting an instant replay deal, because it would immediately lead to instant replay being overused, down to ball/strike calls*.

And I couldn't help thinking: You know, if this or the fan interference/home run or the runner's interference call or any of about a score or more calls I could name had gone against the Yankees (yeah, right), you can bet that the ESPN crew would have been arguing the merits of summary dismissal versus immediate execution for the offending umpire.

Go California Anaheim Los Angeles Whatever-in-Hell-You're Calling Yourselves These Days Angels!

*:wtf:

19. ESPN is far more pro-Yankee
The studios are in Bristol, which is marginally Red Sox country, but the NY bias is overwhelming, although not quite to the same degree as Fox, which has Steinbrenner family employee Tim McCarver broadcast playoff games.

28. THANK YOU
add to that my personal list:

The Manning brothers, and their father's influences

Kobe-Shaq...well, especially Kobe these days...

Favre-Vick-Owens (and although they have been out of circulation for awhile, McGuire-Clemens-Bonds)

The lame-assed 'sportscenter' commercials, which stopped being entertaining back in the 90s

The complete absence of any real sports journalism -- Just endless sportswriter screamfests and highlight reels...Ever notice how they are NEVER the first to break anything anymore?? How does the alleged 'sports leader' constantly get scooped by Yahoo Sports and Pro Football Talk, among others?

Steven (aka Screamin') A. Smith

Colin Coherd and the rest of the tits on ESPN radio, which once upon a time was at least listenable....

Skip "I'm a total assclown jagg-off who is never right about anything" Bayless

Even though they finally fired him, Michael fucking Irvin

Even though they finally fired him, Jason Whitlock

Michael fucking Wilbon

Mel fucking Kiper and the overhyped future bust draft picks

The annual Heisman Trophy Charade

Lee fucking Corso

The ESPYs (puke)

The fact that the alleged 'sports leader' could have so many people so ignorant about soccer

The fact that only after losing a chunk of viewers to Fox Soccer Channel, GOL TV and the rest does ESPN actually start to broadcast a little

Taking Monday Night Football away from ABC (I know it doesn't matter much, but it's the principle)

Inventing/hyping up bullshit non-sporting events and re-packaging them up as legit sports: X-Games, poker (which accounts for half of their programming when the NFL isn't in season), the spelling bee (ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?), etc...

The whole makeup of the ESPN-centric universe:

If it didn't happen in L.A., Chicago or the east coast Washington D.C. - Boston corridor, then it's not worth mentioning...

If it isn't a sport regularly broadcasted by one of the Disney families, then it's not worth mentioning...

If it happened before the time ESPN existed then it didn't happen

Yankees-Red Sox-Cubs-Cards-Dodgers are the only MLB teams

Pats-Colts-Giants-Cowboys-Steelers-Jets-Favre-T.O. are the only NFL teams

Lakers-Spurs-Cavs-Celts are the only NBA teams

NASCAR is the only racing

College basketball is only the ACC, Big East and Kentucky

Sportscenter and ESPN radio hosts must pimp Disney movies/ABC shows/flagging sports they broadcast

that is what you get all season long one or the other. Farve will fall out of favor again pretty quickly to them as he is not a member of the NY Giants, but baseball biases are every single year.

36. SO many good answers in this thread
I voted for Tim Fucking Tebow, but all the rest of your choices were equally valid. I just hate Tebow more.

As far as individual sports go:

Baseball: YANKEES/RED SOX OMG RIVALRY!!!! (which no one outside the east coast/the respective fan bases cares about)

College basketball: DUKE/NORTH CAROLINA OMG RIVALRY!!! (which no one outside of the Atlantic South/the respective fan bases cares about)

College Football: USC!!!!! ALSO THE SEC, INCLUDING FLORIDA, LSU, FLORIDA, BAMA, AND DID WE MENTION FLORIDA!!!!!

NFL: BRETT FAVRE!!!!! ALSO THE GIANTS AND JETS AND PATRIOTS AND COWBOYS BUT MOSTLY BRETT FAVRE!!!!!!

Basically, if you're a Midwest sports fan and you don't give a shit about the Cubs and their lovable loser curse, you might as well not bother watching ESPN.
