A word about message board etiquette
When someone says, "Stop talking to me or I'll put you on ignore," it's in effect the same thing. Right? Make it worth it.

If you put someone on ignore and feel the need to tell them right before you do so, there's no need to be dramatic about it. The classic, "Welcome to my ignore list," works just fine- simple and effective. Don't say something like, "I am now forced to silence you." It makes you sound like you've got a god complex.

Somebody actually said those two sentences to me. Another weird part of the conversation was that I was actually trying to be friendly. It was the most bizarre conversation I've had on any message board. And, yes, that's coming from a guy who occasionally talks about what it's like to be insane.

1. Funny, but I have noone on ignore. The only person I had on ignore
is no longer on DU, even though he has reincarnated himself here at least four times.

3. I don't have anyone on ignore, either
And the above incident is the first time I have knowingly been put on ignore. I've been here since 2003 and I have about 16,000 posts under two user names. I used to be known as Droopy.

2. I agree.
Worse than that, I have people telling me that I am on ignore every chance they get via reference in another thread when my name is said.

It doesn't bother me, but it does puzzle me. What's the point?

6. There's really no need to mention it AT ALL.
To do so would actually be in the realm of "getting dramatic."

9. Years ago in the lounge, "I'm putting you on ignore" was a favorite...
but then we discovered cats.

11. Or making an extra response saying "Well I can't see the ignored person who responded..."
I will say this:

For the "stop talking to me or I'll put you on ignore" is good for a one-strike rule, if people want to be civil and take the high road.

After that point, the gloves come off. :)
