I am definitely loving my IPOD touch
as a reader I find myself picking books all the time. But here is the thing, buying new books is expensive, and yes I love my public library, but hey... bad back. So I have been able to download many books from Guttenberg. I have been readying War and Peace, and today went on a download binge. Next I guess will be Utopia by Moore... and a few others.

Yes, having the actual book would have its advantages, but the ebooks are just damn convenient to carry.

Who else uses ebooks these days? In some ways they are the future...

2. new iPod Touch here!
I just picked up a new iPod Touch this weekend for book reading. I have a quite a few in PDF format so I have not tried any real ebooks yet.

I first tried Stanza for PDF reading but now I'm trying Good Reader and it seems to handle pdfs a little better.

Any suggestions on official ebook readers?

The Touch is nice. Although, moving around is causing my fingerprints to show up on the screen. Hope it doesn't affect my reading.

5. Welcome to DU
and Stanza is a good one... the free books are mostly formatted for it, and are guttenberg project.

if you should have to format the IPOD they are "lost" but can be downloaded again

Kindle is a boom and they will be on the server side, so you will be able to download

The Barnes and Noble reader is ok, but has some things kindle does not.

So overall, I'd say try them. Good news, all of them have free books, so you can see what you like

4. Between e-books and audio books my iPod
really keeps me entertained and informed. I bike to work and started listening to audio books while I ride. Stanza and Audiobooks are two great free apps on iTunes. I'm also reading foreign newspapers and watching foreign news broadcasts.

13. Yes, that's the way to take a screen shot. To reboot, you have to hold the
two buttons down for around six seconds. Then, a moment after the screen shuts down, press the sleep/wake button on top, and you'll see the white Apple logo. It's rebooting.

7. I love my Touch, too
Amazon offers the Kindle app free of charge, and since installing it on my Touch it's been my downfall :) The transfer from Amazon to the Kindle app is completely seamless, and I've found the screen well-lit, easy to read and since I can flip pages with my thumb it's considerably easier to read than a bound book.

Today Where Men Win Glory, the book about Pat Tillman, was released and I was able to download it and start reading in seconds - no drive to the bookstore, no waiting in line. I'm already halfway through it and it's an amazing book about an amazing man.

I also love the Touch for games, for movies and video, and the MLB app that allows me to watch live baseball. It's handy for email. This thing has quickly become not only fun but something that I use constantly.

8. Yep I use it for a lot
Audiobooks, a fellow poster mentioned it... downloading stories from Sholom Aleichem... the fidler on the roof fame... something to listen tomorrow while doing work.

9. It's good for radio as well
The Wunder Radio app has just about every Air America station, as well as other liberal programming. I have a speaker dock I throw it on and it's pretty close to having satellite radio. Honestly, it's the greatest gadget on the market.

16. avoid the new 8GB Touch
I'd avoid the new 8GB Touch. Since the release of the iPod Touch 3rd generation last week, the 32GB and 64GB have a faster 50% processor and updated graphics. The newly released 8GB still has the old slower hardware.

15. I use Stanza on my Touch and it's great but I've recently gotten into reading comic books as well.
With an app called comiczeal. It's great to go back thirty years and reread old comics from my teens.

Over all the Ipod Touch is the most effective anti-boredom machine that I own.
