1. and a good thing too
I saw the triptych "Water Lilies" on my one visit to the US, back in 1982. Was glorious.

The NYT's description is apt: "In front of nearly all the paintings here, and the triptych especially, the eye hovers and zooms over the surface like a dragonfly, exploring its horizontal recessions and watery depths, its intimations of reflection and mist and lily pad."

Yup. Float like a lily-pad, zoom like a dragonfly.

2. Anyone who is near enough to see it but
thinks it's been commercialized to hell and back (which it has been) and thinks they should skip it, should think again.

I saw this in Chicago back in the 90's and it was totally mesmerizing! Seeing the real thing is incredible.

3. We have Nympheas here at the Carnegie
One of my favorites. I like to very slowly walk from one end to another. Beautiful. There is something he managed to capture on canvas that is wonderful.

5. Last time I was in Paris, tried to get to Giverny to see the gardens that
were his inspiration...too much to do and see, though...next time.

7. What a treat for those in or near NY

Let me also take this moment to let you all know about the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia which has the greatest collection of Early 20th century art in the states (It's my favorite museum in the world even more than the Peggy Guggenheim in Venice which is close to perfect) You need to make an appointment to view but if you love Monet, Chagal and my favorite Matisse you owe it to yourself to go at least once your life.. They are gearing up to move to a new home in Philadelphia to be able to display more of their collection, but I would strongly recommend a visit to the building and grounds in Merion as it's a treat in and of itself.

And of course...No visit to Paris is complete without a visit to Musee de l'Orangerie which has an venue designed by Monet himself to display his work.

11. I saw a Monet show in Boston 20 something years ago. It was wonderful
to see the subjects he painted side by side. There would be 4 dawn over the river seine and you could see he was painting dawn over the course of minutes in that series of paintings. Get thee to the show. Sounds great.
