How many here never ate Wonder Bread.
We ate homemade bread or wheat bread.

My Aunt was ahead of her time.

9. I think it was too expensive for parents raising 5 kids -
and - it appeared to be made of air! I never felt bad about not having it, actually.

10. I don't like store white bread to this day.
If I buy bread from the store it is wheat bread.

I do like making my own bread.

Some of those store bought whites are just like sponges. Yuk. I like some real texture in my bread.

14. For those times when you are tired of making your own
(yes, it does happen ;)) try potato bread. I'm not sure if HEB sells it or not; I know WF does, though I'm not shopping there for the time being. Other than in baking classes, I've never made my own potato bread at home. It makes a really nice white bread and the enzymes in the potato help it keep longer, assuming you don't eat the loaf in a couple of days :D

16. I ate potato bread before.
It wasn't bad.

I have 4 bread making machines, don't know why.

It is really easy to make bread, and so good hot.

The bread never last very long.

lol! You could open your own bakery :P

I have one bread machine. I don't use it as much since it's just me right now. It's better when there's two or more people :)

25. I bought one bread machine, somebody gave me a bread machine they didn't want.
The other two I don't remember.

I have gotten spoiled to homemade bread now, but damn it goes fast.

15. yeah, we always got the local bakery white bread, which was fine, but...
it wasn't as oddly malleable and moist and bleached as Wonder Bread. We got WB once in a while, but it was pretty rare.

Edited on Wed Sep-09-09 04:46 PM by Moondog
but Wonder Bread makes a great PB&J. And, if you must know, extra crunchy Jif with orange marmalade. Or strawberry preserves. How weird is that?

18. There is a wheat bread that looks like white bread.
It is called Nature's Own Whitewheat.

It is close enough to white bread to fool you kid but with wheat.

It is a healthy white.

21. When I was a kid and my mom had never exposed me to anything different, yeah
Once I had the first taste wheat bread that's pretty much all I wanted. Aside from rye, pumpernickel and a few of those other Real Breads, of course.

As an aside my mother used to make throw rugs out of the bread wrappers. Cut them into long windy strips and crocheted them.

24. When I was a kid it was Sunbeam Bread. We had a bakery here.

We still do only now it is Sara Lee and they make croutons, but when it bakes it smells like bread and when it's baking it takes me right back to when I was a little boy. What an evocative odor that is.

...Miracle Whip, Oscar Meyer bologna, and Kraft processed individually wrapped "American" cheese slices.

Debatable whether or not there was any actual food in that sandwich...lol.

it takes a while to get used to the smell of assembly line baking.

Interesting experience. Most of my best friends still work there.

32. Me. My mom made the most awesomest homemade bread.
Plus, there was a nice bakery that we went to every couple weekends. We didn't honestly eat much bread. Sandwich at lunch, toast during Sat morning breakfast.
