I need to rant about a litterbox
My roomie Effie has had a bag of kitty litter sitting outside the litterbox-closet's door for three days now. Unopened.

The cat just wanted in to her box. I opened the door and the fucking smell bowled me back. The box is about half-full of poop and is really rank. I feel bad for the cat having to use a filthy litterbox (there is crap all up the sides--blech!).

We've talked to Effie about cleaning the box more often several times. Should I clean the damn box myself, or "remind" her again that she must do it?

The smell is now wafting upstairs.

6. Thank you
:loveya:

That takes all of 5 minutes to accomplish.

I will never get it why she can't find the time.

2. I'm of the mood tonight where I will tell you to clean it out and place
the contents on her bed. That's awful. It's not healthy for you and the smell will get into the wood of your home.

Blech, i'm sorry you have to deal with that.

:hi:

3. Put the box in Effie's room
She won't forget... ever. And I'm sure the poor kitty would be happier with a clean litterbox.

5. Clean it yourself and put the poop in paper plate or other disposable
container someplace that you know she is going to use like on the table, on her dressing table in the bathroom sink, but make sure it's a place that she is going to have to remove it herself. You can remind her that the next time it will be on her bed if she doesn't start being responsible for her cat.

12. Buy one of those easy clean cat boxes. Not the electric kind
the kind with a screen that sits inside one of two other boxes.
Not that expensive and easy to take care of. No excuses then
because the box is clean in a couple of easy motions.

25. Actually, the electric ones are great...
...as long as you make sure to get the right kind of litter for them.

8. poor kitty :(
I HATE cleaning the litter box, but I feel sorry for my cats long before it gets to the point of smelling up the house

tough judgement call, who is the cat's owner?

17. a quandary...
balancing the principle against the cat's best interest.. I'm afraid I would clean it, but then make some kind of point about it, somehow.

Years ago I had a roomie and he had 3 cats, and I ended up litter guy more often than not. It all worked in the end, though, because I found true love in one of those kitties, and within a year we had moved out and gotten a place together. 10 years later and we still are still together :)

20. I cleaned it
I'm hoping Effie's delicate sensibilities will cause her to be embarrassed that I had to come in contact with her cat's stinky embarrassing litterbox.

11. Would your roomie like duct tape wrapped around her toilet???
That is, in effect, what she's doing to the cat by not cleaning out the box!

Shame.

14. Unfortunately..
The letterbox is dedicated to one cat.

The toilet is formulate for multiple cats. :P

15. I'd clean it, - but I'd also
purchase a cheap box of garbage bags, and as soon as the box is clean, slip one of the bags over it and pour the litter into the tray over the bag. Next time it's dirty, just slip the bag off, tie it up and your done.

Poor kitty.

18. Oh, she *has* handle-tie box-liners
It isn't a matter of time, or convenience--cleaning the litterbox takes a couple minutes. It's just that Effie, for whatever reason, doesn't want to DO it.

22. Ah. Well. In that case, I'd be inclined to
leave it in the middle of her damned bed.

But then, I'm notoriously short on patience with those who neglect the health and hygiene of their companion animals.

21. Litter duty is the karma yoga I do to show I love my cats.
It's an opportunity to burn bad karma that your cats give you as a gift.

That's the Buddah attitude about it, anyway.

Maybe it's time to potty train the cat. Something I keep meaning to do with my cats.
