The head of our department (food and beverage) wants to make me a supervisor. The responsibilities would increase greatly and I'd be in charge of the 2nd shift, but here's the rub: 2 of the 3 people on 2nd shift would have to have their hours cut or switched to a different shift in order to make room for me on the shift.
I've been stressing about this for a couple days, and I think I finally have my answer. Paul says he likes it, but I'd like some other opinions if you don't mind.
"First I'd like to thank you for the offer. I think, however, that it would be very difficult to come to a shift as a supervisor when you start out having the shift mad at you because you are the cause of them losing wages. I would not be able to inspire loyalty among my co-workers if my first actions result in lost hours and wages, or forces them to work split shifts to make up the difference. So, while I appreciate the offer, I must respectfully decline."
