My son brought me a birthday present.
It is Fergie Jenkins' new biography. It is signed, "To Muriel, Happy Birthday." Fergie Jenkins, HOF 91.

What a thoughtful birthday present!

2. My youngest daughter took me to a Cubs game
a week ago for my birthday. They won, too.

Two Cubs related birthday presents from my kids! They know their mom!

They don't have to get me anything. They can't always afford it. They are good kids.

3. With all due respect, I'll always think of him as a Texas Ranger.
The 70's were especially hard years. Rangers fans grasped at any bright spot they could, and Fergie was one of them.

Nice present from a nice kiddo.

4. Fergie played the longest for the Cubs.
But I do understand and respect your comment about having hard years. Any Cubs fan does.

The Cubs retired Fergie's number. It hangs with the numbers of Santo, Banks, Sandberg, Williams and Maddux, whose #31 is the same as Fergie's.

I used to spend a lot of time in the ballpark during the sixties and seventies. I lived closer to Chicago then. I often saw the heart of the order, Williams, Santo and Banks. They played and Fergie pitched.

6. It is the 31st.
My kids just did things early. They work during the week. One lives about ninety miles away, in the suburbs. One lives in Chicago, and one lives in Madison.

My husband and I will probably go out to eat on Monday. I don't need a fancy birthday. They were just being thoughtful.
