3. Crisco - blech....
Give me good old-fashioned butter and lard in my homemade pastries.
Screw "healthy alternatives."
Nothing beats a crust made with butter and lard.

8. eh, I think just butter makes a great pie crust
lard literally makes me ill, and I did not like it even when I ate meat.

23. What do you cook your fried chicken in, smarty pants?
And an exemplary pie crust/pastry isn't made with lard. It's made with butter, one egg, salt, and white flour. :hi:

14. Lewis Black says Crisco make a wonderful sunblock
What I find really works. Crisco. There's no Crisco 1, Crisco 9, Crisco 75. No, it's just Crisco. You never get burnt with Crisco. Why? Because when you start to sizzle, you move your ass."

15. I've used a Julia Child recipe for pie crust (Pate Brise) for years...
It's made of mostly butter and a LITTLE BIT OF CRISCO!
Hey, if it's good enough for Julia, it's good enough for me. (Make that MOI.)

16. Please share your recipe
I like to think that I am a renaissance woman. I have knitted sweaters, sewn clothes for me and the kids, crocheted afghans, taught myself how to play the piano, grown my own vegetables and built our log home. I can repair computers and create web sites. I know how to operate all of the power tools out there and have been known to heft a chain saw.

In the kitchen, I can roast a prime rib to perfection, make a killer eggs benedict with Hollandaise sauce and my white sauce is unbelievable. The only thing left on my domestic bucket list is PIE!!! I can't for the life of me make a f*@kin pie crust. I've tried every recipe.

HELP!!

BTW that pie looks so fantastic! I am so jealous!!!

17. There's a trick to it:
You have to make pie crust as if your kitchen were on fire and you have to get out as soon as you finish.
(In other words, don't don't don't overwork it. Glomp it together as quick as you can, then wrap it in foil (a little bit sooner than you think you should) and toss it into the refrigerator. I think that's true no matter what you use as a recipe.

27. Saying that to me this afternoon, in the mood I'm in...
...is kind of like the girl in the Scooter Libby book who pokes the bear with a stick to get him aroused.

Except, in my world, words are the stick and I am the bear.

GRRRR.
