the fact that he's holding his regular glasses in his hand, the one attached to the arm with the broken shoulder. So he must have taken them off and put on some sunglasses to have the picture taken.

an exhibit I once saw at the British Museum.

They have a large Egyptology section, and part of that exhibit was a man who had been desiccated by simply being buried in the sand. Not mummified, at least in the traditional way, not wrapped, not in a sarcophogus. Just a guy who died, or was buried, on his side, in the sand.

He (you could tell he was a he) looked almost freeze-dried. All fluids gone, and what was left was reduced and leathery; not shriveled, per se, just less mass and leathery.

And that is the recollection that this photo triggers.

He has no fat on his face. It's just bone, muscle, skin. Even his nose looks kind of hollowed out. At his age 61, there would normally be some wrinkles caused by sagging muscle. He doesn't have enough excess skin to have wrinkles.
