It'd be a stretch to call him a great singer or a great drummer.
But he is a great singer/drummer. (But mostly I like The Eagles better than Genesis.)

He's a very good drummer and a good pop singer, but the best? No. There are a lot of people who sing better than he does, and I can name five rock drummers right off the top of my head who are better than Phil Collins: Neil Peart, Josh Freese (primarily a session cat but he plays in about nine bands), Nicko McBrain, John Dolmayan and Michael Portnoy. The patented Phil Collins Gated Snare, which everyone in the fucking world figured out how to do the day after he released the first album that had it on it, is enough to turn me off Phil Collins' drumming for life. Imagine being known among your peers primarily for inventing a cliche--well, that's Phil in a nutshell.

| 25. Eh, I kinda like the gated drum sound. |

I can only stomach a couple of Phil's songs but the rather like the way Peter Gabriel used the effect.

for doing both at the same time, though,it has to be Levon Helm, and Buddy Miles was a great one too.
