| My husband vs. the gummint haters |
|
My husband is a loyal friend, loving son, brother, and husband. He has always been in alignment with my own, more passionate feelings about politics and social justice. However, he's never gotten as charged up as I have, and tended to tease me for having "socialist" leanings. This means something different from a person raised in France, BTW.
So, lately, he's gotten charged up by the healthcare debate, and is taking a stand against the "libertarian" position held by some of our friends (there are loads of them in high-tech), as well as some of my cousins. I heard a great piece on NPR recently about Tom Joad, The Grapes of Wrath, and the role government played in helping this country out of the Great Depression.
My husband has never seen "The Grapes of Wrath", much less read the book. I'm putting together a little private Steinbeck film festival for him, to be followed by a visit to the museum for our 13th anniversary. I love it when we learn something new together, and I'm so glad that I'm married to someone I admire more every day.
That is all.
