Some pictures from Italy - dial up warning
Got back yesterday and had a great time. We really loved Sorrento and it was a great base for day trips. Rome was hot and there is just so much to see, we walked our legs off. This is the first vacation that I came back from having lost weight.
This was the view of Mt Vesuvious from our B&B

We took a ferry to Capri and walked up to Tiberious' Villa. My wife from part way up

Pompeii was amazing

Menu item from the brothel in Pompeii

Glad we took a bus to Positano. I wouldn't want to drive those roads

Trevi Fountain

Rosettes that covered the inside of the Arch of Septimius Severis (not Severus Snape) in the Roman Forum

I was blown away by the Colliseum. I could easily imagine 60K people yelling for the blood of gladiators. The entire center area would have been covered with a platform with trap doors

1. My dear seemunkee!
Wow, those are great!

Italy is one country I haven't seen yet, and I do want to get there...

Sounds like you need to be in pretty good shape to go, huh?

Thanks for sharing!

:hi:

Or you can pay for a tour, but we like to be on our own.

4. Love the interior picture from the Arch of Septimius Severus...
...amazing how well much of the detail has remained after 1800 years. Nice pic.

6. And people sit on the stuff too
We thouhgt it was bizarre that there would be columns and chunks of carved marble lying around and people would be climbing on it and using it as benches. This happened in Pompeii, around the Parthenon and at the forum. You would think they would be protecting these things to try and restore them to their proper location on the buildings but it just wasn't the case.
