two of my best friends are afraid they're going to be laid off today

an unannounced round of layoffs hit their newspaper today and, despite being spared in the last several rounds of layoffs, the newsroom is getting hit this time.

one of my friends has been on medical leave for at least six weeks now and got a call yesterday that she needed to come into hr this afternoon and she's convinced she's going to be one of the cuts.

obviously no one can afford to lose their job, but it would be particularly devastating to either one of them. both have piles of medical bills and one of their husband's companies announced earlier this summer that up to 50 percent of the factory could get laid off after they come back from their summer shut down.

if could just spare a good thought or two for them, it would be greatly appreciated.
