1. Where do they come from????
I have never had a problem with them before and then I let one banana get a little brown and now I am over-run with the little fuckers! I threw out the fruit and keep my kitchen at hospital levels of cleanliness but I still find one buzzing around now and then! :grr:

2. They're quite persistent.
They'll hang around in drains, by garbage, on the soil of houseplants, anywhere that stays moist.

3. I tried baiting them with sweets (fruit, wine) in metal containers overnight...
then, first thing when I woke up, slammed the oven door and turned it up to 400 degrees.

Once I was certain everything was burnt to a tasty crisp, I turned it off and looked...

Nary a fucking fruit fly was fried.

Damn.

Little freaks are still buzzing around.

I thought I killed 7 tonight with lysol air cleaner... nope. unlike the danger notices, nothing is killed by that spray. Except my patience...

I'll have to set some traps or buy Raid or something proper...

4. Everything and more (gross) you wanted to know about fruit flies.

Some interesting ways to get rid of fruit flies

1. Use a fly trap. Bait it with fruit or sugar water.

More ideas

Good Luck!!

5. I heard a great solution from a finance guy, no less...
Take a glass, puit some vinegar in it, cover the top with wax paper, poke holes in the wax paper.

Fruit flies will be attracted to the smell of vinegar, and be trapped in the glass.

6. Get a garbage can with a locking lid
Like I said last time somebody brought this up, $6 at Family Dollar, $8 at Big Lots. The little fuckers can still crawl in and out of them (the little fuckers can crawl in and out of the refrigerator for cripes sakes) but it slows 'em down. The traps with either vinegar or honey mixed with dishwashing liquid and covered with plastic wrap that has holes punched in it really do work. Eventually. My last crop materialized due to a rotting potato, so you might want to check to see if you have any of those in the cupboard. And as pointed out, your fruit flies might be drain flies; you might want to pour a big pot's worth of boiling water down the kitchen drain just in case.
