Just got back from the Vet. My dog has an Epulis in her mouth.
An epulis is the most common non-cancerous oral tumor in dogs. They are benign but can become quite large and completely envelop one or more teeth.

Thank goodness my dog's is very, very small along her gum line and will be lasered off during her dental cleaning.

Of course I had to Google the words 'Epulis Dog" and came across this very disturbing story (but with a happy ending) about a rescued Pug named Pumpkin:

How could any pet owner allow the growth to get that big? How inhumane cruel! :grr:

I love the picture of Pumpkin one day after surgery. She looks so happy. Thank goodness Pumpkin got rescued!

2. I know!! I can understand if the owners didn't notice it while the
tumor was inside the mouth, but once it grew to the outside they should have done something. And then to let the tumor get so big.

I know it is sometimes hard to afford medical treatment for pets but the Pug ended up at the rescue organization so why couldn't the owners have given it to them sooner? Maybe there were circumstances we will never know about but it just boggles my mind.

Thank you from my pup Mimic! This is her as a baby:

This is her as an adult:

I do not have a recent pic on photobucket - so add several pounds and you will know what she looks like today.

4. I remember when you first got him and posted about it.
I think I replied something about smelling his puppy breath from here.

He is sooo cute.
