Yes, we have no tomatoes.
WE have no tomatoes today.

Bought two 'mature' tomato plants a few weeks ago.
About 2 1/2 feet tall.

Each plant had one green tomato already on it.
Finally got a red, ripe tomato from one.
Cutworm got the still green tomato on the other one.

I've nurtured and fertilized them.
Picked 3 more cutworms off.
They now about 4' tall.
Lush and healthy looking.
And...no...tomatoes.
jeez
What the hell?
:wtf:

1. too hot for flowers
you can spray them with some kind of "flower set" or just wait a while they will overwhelm you in another month or so.

also they might be doing some root recovery work from the late transplanting, but I bet heat is the real problem

4. That was us last year. Our grape tomatoes grew like crazy though.
We didn't try this year. The weather has been so funky.

5. What's odd about that is that tomatoes normally grow like weeds. I have seen
volunteers growing in gutters...

6. I don't understand tomatoes.
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 07:25 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
Last year I got only a few. This year I have so many (from just one HUGE plant) that I've been giving them away. And this is Minnesota, where it's been so cool all summer that I turned on my air conditioner for the first time yesterday. Seriously, I don't understand tomatoes at all. They are contrary and unpredictable -- the cats of the plant world.

I also have a terrifyingly large pumpkin plant.

7. They are probably "in shock" from being transplanted.
Give them some time and they will recover. I have picked tomatoes as late as mid-October in years when there was a late freeze.

8. You planted them too late!
Try earlier next year. Also, soil is really important for tomatoes.

9. Do you have string beans or onions?

Honestly, it might be a bee/pollination issue. Do you ever see bees on the flowers?
