Q What do fat bellies, yellow teeth, and cleavage have in common?

A: The typical ads on the home pages of many websites, including DU.

I have nothing against tabloids or "back pages" --I just kinda wish it weren't so much on the front page....but what do I know...maybe most of us don't mind looking at a lot of flesh and teeth closeups with their news? Or do you scroll away so fast you have no idea what I'm talking about?

I'm so tired of this body obsession in this culture...am I too sensitive????

Firefox with Adblock Plus installed should take care of them. I've never even seen these ads you're referring to.

But a couple of hours after this was posted they all disappeared. Poof. And DU's home page looked respectable again. Wish I could do that magic with other In Your Face marketing strategies ....

However this morning I'm seeing Rachel Ray's belly on the home page. In this case her head's there and black bra. I can't exactly tell if this is the "before" or "after" photo as she doesn't look anorexic.
But at least it's not a sideways belly with big overhang.

When I closed Firefox and restarted it here are "cleavage" and "yellow teeth" on the home page this morning. I realize these ads are rotated and displayed at certain intervals.

The way I use it is when I find an image (can be an ad or just an inappropriate image in general), I right click on it, and in addition to copy, paste, all the normal menu items, I see "block ads from _______________."

You can also set up a subscription option when you install it, which will block most of the ads without you having to take any action at all.

I broke down and installed it back when yahoo decided I couldn't read my mail without looking at someone with a saggy stretch marked belly - with an animation that wiped the woman's body back to "how it's supposed to look."

22. For the most part,

I do a visual tune out on those ads. The one that really annoys the hell out of me is the one for John Kasich for gov. of Ohio. Actually, I wouldn't block the ads if I could. Every once in a while, there is one at the bottom of a thread that just cracks me up because of the irony between the ad and the thread topic.

The only complaint I have against the ads is I have dial up and they cause a delay in loading the site on the comp.
