Be careful with the thorns

3. We have that kind of cactus here in FL
But I've never seen fruit like that on them. Maybe it's not the same kind. Does it get a big yellow flower first?

6. Yep
I used to have one. I think it died of over watering. Too much rain down here. Plus it was in a pot and probably didn't have good drainage.

14. Yes
I buy them in the market for a buck and a quarter a piece.

You have to be careful when peeling them, otherwise you end up with hands full of micro thorns, which are difficult to remove and annoying as hell (scotch tape works).

Cut the ends off, make an incision from top to bottom, peel back the skin, and eat the fruit.

It tastes like a combination of canteloupe and honeydew melon.

One more thing, it has A LOT of SEEDS the size of buckshot so chew carefully so you don't break a tooth biting into a seed; just swallow the fruit, seeds and all.
