Lowell Folk Festival (Pic Heavy)
These pics are from earlier this evening, at the Lowell Folk Festival (Lowell MA) - the festival runs all weekend, so things are just getting warmed up!

At the very beginning of the festival, before most people have arrived...

Boarding House Park, a poplular outdoor venue...

A flag raising ceremony at the start of the festival parade - JFK Plaza.

Lowell City Hall, the start of the parade route.

Proud Columbian parade walkers...

The Laos parade walkers, the man in the straw hat is the mayor of Lowell.

One of our trolleys (or streetcars, if you prefer) preparing to pick up passengers...

The trolley crosses over Merrimack St.

A view of Middle St., downtown Lowell.

The old Westford MA quarry train, now on display near city hall.

On the trolley, arriving at the end of the parade route just in time!

The wacky guy with the umbrella is our mayor, leading the parade in song and dance...

The food vendors area is already mobbed!

A couple of adorable Philippino girls offer food samples to people waiting in line.

Mogan Cultural Center, a former mill building (one of many in the city).

Philippino food rocks!!!

The other end of Middle St. with outdoor eating areas in the street.

The intersection of Middle and Palmer St., downtown Lowell.

Your tired host...thanks for taking a look at my pictures!

1. How wonderful!!!!
The comeback of that city is amazing, and I'm so happy to see it.

Thank you for taking me along.

Now I'm hungry for Filipino food, damn you!!!!

3. Yeah that food is amazing
The line is always loooooong, but so many people make it a point to visit that vendor every year...great stuff! I actually went back out again, downtown is still mobbed, there's a lot of street performers playing right now - it's such a great atmosphere...and the festival really hasn't started yet! Tomorrow will be the main performers, and the craft demonstrations and kids area will be running. I'm gonna be one tired guy!

2. Great pics.
I've never been to Lowell, but it looks like a very livable city.

4. I love it here
I'm admittedly biased, but there's a good mix of people here, it's affordable, and a train ride away from Boston. The city constantly strives to get better, and has good leadership. I can't complain!
