Photoshoppers, I need your help.
As some of you may know, My dad recently passed away, I would like to get the same tattoo that he had on his right arm, which is simply his name "Bill" in script. I only have a couple pictures that show the tattoo clearly. I have attached a copy of the best one, If any of you can clean it up I would really appreciate it.

I would also like to thank all of you that posted in the "vibes" thread when he passed. The vibes were much appreciated.

Despite what you see on CSI, it would be hard to enhance this into anything resembling a good template from that photo, unless you have one that is much, much larger.

I don't know the circumstances of your father's death, but if he was in a nursing home or hospital, it might be possible that they took a clear photograph of it for identification purposes or legal purposes (they sometimes take photographs of patients to document the physical condition in which they arrived).

Maybe go to a tattoo shop, look through the flash lettering and show the photo to the artist, and they might be able to figure out what lettering style was used and could approximate it for you fairly closely. They can draw it on paper until it looks like you remember it (which is the important thing), then transfer it to you.

2. No close up shots were ever taken
We have looked at most of the pictures we have but, the only closer shots are all on prints, and they are not much bigger.

I plan on taking the pic I have to the Tattoo artist and have them work from that, I just figured I let ya'all have a try.

Thanks for trying.

3. If you take it to a *good* tattoo artist
they will be able to redraw it for you. They should be willing to redraw it until it is to your liking. If they are unwilling to do that, walk out, you don't want them tattoing you anyway.

4. Better resolution?
Was this cropped from a scanned photograph or from a digital photo? If it was a photographic print you may be able to scan at a higher resolution before cropping.

I pulled this into Photoshop, but from this picture alone there appears to be more there than just "Bill". Maybe the script is more ornate than I am imagining. It almost looks like there is something between the B and the i (in the cleavage of the "B") and something after the last "L" as well. I am quite used to retreiving or completely redrawing clear line art from fuzzy photos and screen captures, but it would be guessing at this point unless you can provide some more resolution, some other views, or added information from memory.

5. This was cropped frome a much larger digital photo.
It just is Bill, but the script is pretty ornate. There is an added "swoosh" at coming from the bottom of the "i", and after the last "l" there is a tail, such as if you were writting and added a little swish of the pen before lifting the pen from the paper. Inside the Bottom loop of the "B" there was an extra loop before the script connects to the "I".

I am still looking for more photos, hopefully one from when we was younger, the Tat is around 48 years old in that photo.

Thanks for trying.
