Odd Haute Couture thread (Photos)
Welcome to the immaculate dress party of the Scandinavian dance bands! :D
Just found these at a facebook group and had to share it with somebody.

Most are from this site:
http://www.svenskadansband.se/

The history of dance bands started in Sweden but are now an all-Scandinavian phenomenon, with remarkable taste in both cloths and music.

Yeah! \m/

3. Well that made my Friday!
I wonder how anyone could have ever thought that looked good! Of course I look back at stuff I wore in the 80's and 90's and can cry! :P

5. Thankfully I was only in elementary at that time!
I can't imagine being a teenager in the 80's!! I would have had hair up to heaven and blue eyeshadow up to my forehead! Scary thought!

6. It was frightening at the time.
Big hair. Canvass jeans. Shoulder pads. Sweaters with tiny alligators on them. Truly horrifying. But, at least when guys put on their parachute pants, they were on. People knew back then that wearing ones pants around his ass made him look like an idiot.

14. I remember I liked the shoulder pads
I shrunk when we passed into the 90's :-o

Here's some of the music, by the maybe most famous band Vikingarna in the 80's.

15. In classical Greece, men were portrayed undressed...
...while women were always covered up. That was the decorum of the time.

Apparently, we have reversed that. Here's a band of guys dressed in the finest of women's clothing.

:( Not that we looked so dorky back then, you really only see it in hindsight anyway
But that I was once as skinny as those girls and had that energy

 Thanks for posting, gave me a laugh, even if a wistful one

11. The tulips are definitely the coolest
The strange thing about this phenomenon is the uniformation of it all, and they don't really fit the ultimate dance band image: everybody has the same suit and the band is named after a band member with an s at the end (Gert Jonnys is named after Gert Jonny, Kent Rogers after Kent Roger and so on). The music is hard to describe, but is a mix of easy listening and swing. The dance band movement gathers in huge parties to dance to the music, and the whole thing is pretty unpretentional and folksy. I think they all sound alike, lol. The Swedish band ABBA has some of this music in their style, but has of course made it cool and worth listening to.

I want one of these suits:

KA-ZAM! I'd take off and fly to work every morning! :D

16. Swedish woman can be so very beautiful --
Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 03:15 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
but what the heck happened to the men??? There are some seriously homely dudes in those photos. :( (I'm Swedish on my Dad's side, so I can say that! :D )

I can see why Alexander Skarsgård was named the hottest guy in Sweden for 4 years running -- hopefully he's not the sole, hot, male Swede!

17. Two comments
The guy on the lower right for Hick: He's single, ladies!

And the caption for the Wifyra shot: "Wait; were we wearing the red or the black outfit today?"
