Cereals you miss from childhood
Although I can still put a hurtin' on some Lucky Charms or Honeycombs, I really really miss these 2...

(I think they might still make Kaboom, but I never see it anymore :()

Freakies always had a free "Freakie" inside, man those were some weird looking little critters. I'm sure at some point I had 3 or 4 complete sets. I remember Kaboom had this distinctly lemon-y taste to it, and I always turned the boxes around, because even happy cereal clowns are kinda creepy...

Yours? :hi:

3. Kaboom! Wow, worst cereal ever!
There was so much sugar in Kaboom (something like 50% or more) that it triggered the late 70s congressional investigation into the nutritional claims made by RTE (ready to eat) cereal manufacturers, which ultimately led to the nutritional labeling of all packaged foods.

I'm older and the cereals I remember are Post Crispy Critters - "the one and only cereal that comes in the shape of animals" - and Kellogg's OKs, which tasted kind of like sugar-sweetened cardboard. There was another cereal with a Hawaiian theme, the name of which eludes me but the advertising showed the cereal blasting out of a volcano, I guess cuz it was puffed.

Speaking of puffed cereals, who recalls when Puffed Wheat was advertised as "the cereal shot from guns"? They used Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture in the ads. Tell me I'm not the only one who remembers this.

7. You aren't, I remember all of these (sigh).
I also remember BucWheats, and when Corn Pops were called Sugar Pops (are tops!), Sugar Bear (can't get enough of that Sugar Crisp), I remember when Honeycomb actually tasted good, Cap'n Crunch, Count Chocula and Frankenberry, New Country Corn Flakes (please buy our Corn Flakes, they're made with corn). Somebody stop, me ahm gonna cry.

14. merciful heavens, I'd forgotten New Country Corn Flakes
With the dead-on portrayal of Grant Woods' "American Gothic" for the visual, and the two of 'em singing.

Yeah, there used to be Sugar Pops, and Sugar Smacks, and Sugar Crisp. Mom would buy the healthier Cheerios, Wheaties or Corn Flakes and every once in a great while would get one box of presweetened cereal, which we emptied immediately.

5. The buzzword in my day was sugar!
The more the better! Sadly, the use of sugar in the brand label has become politicaly incorrect. Mmmm, cold cereal, milk, sugar, and B&W television. Life was grad in the '50's. Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

They were this cereal I absolutely loved when I was a little kid. They stopped making them about 6 or 7 years ago, and it made me sad. Now that I think about it, I would kill for another box of those :P

We were never allowed to eat "those" kind of cereals. I used to eat raisin bran, cracklin' oat bran, and if I was really, really lucky, I'd get some cinnamon Life.

24. Urkel-O's
I saw a box of those in a grocery in Columbus OH (Test market capital of the world) back in the late 80s. Yes, that's Urkel from the TV show. I think it was a Quaker brand, so I think it was just circular Cap'n Crunch.

Wish I'd bought a box and saved the package... why, I don't know.

29. I still remember the jingle from PacMan cereal...
It amazes me that I remember it to this day:

You can do it, you can do the Pac Man!
Pac Man cereal you can open wide,
Gobble up the ghosts that are hiding inside!
Red... Orange... Pink... and Blue,
Gobble up the ghosts before they gobble up you!
You can do it, you can do the Pac Man!

I always had to have Quisp.

My sister had Quake.

I'm surprised my mom actually bought us separate boxes when we were kids.

Here's a factoid - Quisp & Quake (and Cap'n Crunch) were designed by Jay Ward, who also created Rocky & Bullwinkle, George of the Jungle, etc...
