5. That's great abq!
I am a record collector but most of my fav oldies are on comp records like the American Graffiti soundtrack. It sure would be nice to have some vintage 45s like that.

The oldies just scratch the right itch for me in the summertime. I wanted to post something silly and fun for people to get their minds away from death and drama. Here's another good time oldie single, Da Doo Ron Ron Ron by the Crystals:

6. another one of the all time greats--excellent taste Jetboy

I still own a turntable and insisted on one that'll still play 45's. Some of mine are re-issues, but some are original( and own hundreds of vinyl albums too)---Dear Lady Twist was one of the first 2 or 3 45's I ever bought.I still remember that my very first was It Will Stand by The Showmen ( vocal by a guy named General Johnson, who later popped up as "The Chairmen of The Board" with Give Me Just a Little More Time) And just yesterday watched my boy Bruce doing Quarter to Three in 1975, and the E Street Band did ol' Gary U.S. proud, and of course it was Bruce that was so instrumental in resuscitating Gary's career. I don't know how old you are ,but these songs are from my youth and its great to hear them , but also just a little bittersweet sometimes. I'm not into nostalgia at all; I listen to this stuff ( among a pretty eclectic set of musical tastes) because they still sound so great, but I admit to that bit of conflicting emotion at the realization of how much time has gone by, and how innocent and hopeful I was back then. It's Summertime by The Jamies is another one that does that to me, just because its so utterly innocent. But what an irrepressibly happy little tune. On Edit--not leaving out Burtworm--it doesn't get any better than Jackie Wilson either...

7. Oh my God!
I was just about to post Summertime by the Jamies, not kidding at all! I'm 38 and heard the oldies on AM radio in the 70s as a child. I just always like that kind of stuff and my first 45 was probably the reissue of Splish Splash. My exact taste in music is when a band from the late 60s forward finds that Golden Age magic and ups the intensity. Still, an Eddie Cochran riff will always sound more powerful than those muscular bands covering him later on. I do love the innocence and energy of that oldies stuff. Music helps all of us in different ways and what I try to get is that pure joy like the Isley Bros doing Shout or Gary US Bonds doing 7 Day Weekend. I believe Bruce produced Bonds' comeback records in the 80s. I have been meaning to check 'em out.

Here's the video I was planning on posting anyway- Summertime by the Jamies- that was too weird!

8. I have both of em ( the Bruce/U.S.Bonds collaborations) and they're outstanding
Edited on Fri Jun-26-09 01:58 AM by abq e streeter
not that every cut is great, but the majority of em are, and none of em suck. Each album has a slow soul ballad that are among the most beautiful ever written and recorded : Your Love ( Is Gonna Let You Down Boy) and Club Soul City( with a guest appearance by Chuck Jackson!---he sings the very last line of the final verse on his own--its stunning)
So if you're down on your spirit
And there ain't no one who cares
If you're lost and you're lonely
You won't be lonely down there
You can't miss it,its just up the highway
On the front door there's a sign that says
Restricted to the...losin' kind

9. The local record store has one of 'em and I have been
meaning to trade for it. That's a great final verse. I hope that song is on the record at the store.

10. And the way Chuck Jackson sings that last line ,as my old college buddy

Texas Don McKinnon used to say" it'll knock your dick in the dirt". Also, if they have the other album "Dedication" , that's a great one too.

11. Here's 'Book of Love'
by Sha Na Na. The guy in the leather jacket is Green Day's manager. The big guy in the 'beater was the sax player for Danny and the Juniors in the early 60s. Try and get from a band on the charts today to an original rock-n-roll act in less steps than that!
