If "good fences make good neighbors" then why is barbed-wire seen as unneighborly?
And why do my neighbors have a problem with the pillbox, slit-trench and tripod-mounted machine gun?

1. Where's the concertina wire?
It's what all the "Curb Appeal" hosts are putting in.

3. Because the old Yankee was wrong.
...'Why do they make good neighbors? Isn't it
Where there are cows? But here there are no cows.
Before I built a wall I'd ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,
And to whom I was like to give offense.
Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
That wants it down.' I could say 'Elves' to him,
But it's not elves exactly, and I'd rather
He said it for himself.

4. My dear arbusto_baboso!
Because barbed-wire isn't neighborly! It's hostile and not good, gasp!

:wow:

6. I'm happy my neighbors have a barbed wire fence
It keeps their cows out of my yard. But then I'm probably one of the few people here that can say that.

7. Because barbed wire cut up my kitty cat.

(But she's on the mend.)

I don't think you can call barbed wire a good fence . . .

Oh. You're jesting?

Well, then. That's different.

Never mind.

9. My grandfather once put a fake tombstone in his yard that read....
"Here's lies Old Rover, stiff and hard, the last goddamned dog to crap in my yard."

13. No. But what DID work was when....
he returned the dog crap to the dogs owner. In a small paper bag. Placed on the offender's doorstep. Sometimes flaming, sometimes not. Got the message across.

22. HA. That is as nothing before the mighty ingenuity of my grandfather
He didn't like the dogs in his yard, so he purchased a goats head (ya know, from his dads farmer friends, came off of a goat), tacked it down to a stump in the front yard, and ran electric wire around to to shock the dogs.

All that got him was a visit from the FBI, or so I am told, so after that he became convinced the dogs were hiding beneath the house, at which time he took a gun and shot holes in the kitchen floor.

11. Is your kitty home now Bertha?
Barbed wire is wicked. My son got cut up on it once. He was messing around with a bunch of other teenagers at a friend's horse farm. Those cuts were pretty awful and deep.

29. Yes, she is home.
Her wounds are healed. She still has the splint on her foot (it was broken as well as cut) and hopefully that will come off on the third. She hates the jaunty hat (elizabethan collar) and is eager to get it off.

Thank you for asking!

16. Hey philboy, you read the damn poem wrong
The point of the poem is that good fences do NOT make good neighbors. I suppose you also think that the road less traveled made all the difference, too.
