I just busted a compulsive liar on another message board.

I'm a moderator on a much smaller, more tightly-knit message board for LGBTQ youth.

There's one member who always told kind of outlandish stories about his life. He claimed to be an internationally ranked fencer and boxer, have sustained several severe injuries over the last few years, including having multiple pieces of metal in his body from being hit by a car, and having become the legal guardian of his ex-girlfriend's kid after she ended up in rehab, only to have her parents take back custody of the kid.

A few days ago, he posted that he, again, had been riding his bike and been hit by a car, mangling his legs. Today, he said, he was getting them amputated at 9 in the morning. Of course, he said he was immune to general anesthetic, so he'd have to do the procedure under local anesthetic.

He was back online at 12. This is, um, impossible for a double amputation.

As well, other things (such as IP addresses) have come to life to prove that he's a fucking liar.

God. I hate people sometimes.

If he's that much of a compulsive liar, he's probably a sociopath. If the board has an IM function, he could be soliciting kids behind your back.

11. I think to be Grade A, you have to be somewhat believable

maybe even to the extent of knowing where the unit you claim to have belonged to was stationed during the Vietnam War so you don't say "I was in Da Nang" only so someone else can say "Oh yeah, well I was really in the 27th and we were in Hue that month". Then your whole facade goes down. But I digress.

Talking about major surgery and then cropping up 3 hours later is like, D- internet tough guy. The F-grade types just lay on the caps lock button and make claims like "I ATE A VW BUS FOR BREAKFAST!!!11!1"

The sad thing is I knew someone who was a D- grade tough guy in real life. Of course, that was high school. He's positively normal these days.
