Hilarious. And I can always put it on for my *mom* to get her out of my hair -works just like Disney cartoons do for the kids.

4. I love Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters,
but Tootsie is my favorite just for one defining Murray moment: When he catches 'Dorothy' with the dirty old man.

"You slut." (The expression, the tone of voice)

That's the defining characteristic of that baby -- the weird, almost crossed eyes.

How did you find this out?

7. Quick Change.
Edited on Sun Jun-21-09 01:50 PM by InternalDialogue
I really liked Lost in Translation, and his older comedies are classics, but Quick Change appealed to me in a way the others didn't. I just thought his humor and emerging dramatic skills were melding at the right time in that film.

Edit to add my favorite quote from the movie:

Bank Guard: What the hell kind of clown are you?
Grimm: The crying on the inside kind, I guess.

14. My vote as well ...
Edited on Sun Jun-21-09 03:28 PM by RoyGBiv
I don't agree he put Depp to shame. I like both portrayals and think Depp probably did more to capture the spirit of HST's writing if not his reality than Murray did. That is, I think Murray portrayed HST better while Depp concentrated on portraying the legend that HST became.

But this is my favorite role of Murray's by far.

27. I think was Depp was better, as he actually hung around with HST to get it right...and he did.
Edited on Sun Jun-21-09 05:28 PM by Forkboy
I do love Where The Buffalo Roam though, and think Murray did a pretty good job. The movie needed a more coherent and focused script. They tried to cram too many disparate parts of HST's history into it.

Depp inflates the act to a cartoonish level

38. Absolute. Depp seriously over-exaggerated HST's mannerisms and quriks.....
Whereas Murry captured the The man completely. He also looked more the part(except for the hair) because of the bloating and the half confident half paranoid look he maintained. Don't get me wrong, I love Fear and Loathing, and Depp did a great job. But as far as I'm concerned, Murry was the Better Thompson.

on a related note, I would have to give the it to Del Torro over Boyle for the role of the lawyer. Again though, both were great.

17. Tough to choose
I voted for Groundhog Day because it's one of those movies I own AND watch every time it's on TV. (Every. Single. Time.)

But I just bought Lost in Translation on iTunes and watched it twice in a row.

Then again...

I just showed MG Jr. Ghostbusters, and that one really holds up--haven't seen it in years, but I still loved it!

Hi,
This is a tough one for me.

"Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Peace

40. I love Bill Murray in many roles -- but this is the scene I will always, always remember him for
Cut it out! Cut it out! Cut it out! The hell's the matter with you? Stupid! We're all very different people. We're not Watusi. We're not Spartans. We're Americans, with a capital 'A', huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We're the underdog. We're mutts! Here's proof: his nose is cold! But there's no animal that's more faithful, that's more loyal, more loveable than the mutt. Who saw "Old Yeller?" Who cried when Old Yeller got shot at the end? ...I cried my eyes out. So we're all dogfaces, we're all very, very different, but there is one thing that we all have in common: we were all stupid enough to enlist in the Army. We're mutants. There's something wrong with us, something very, very wrong with us. Something seriously wrong with us - we're soldiers. But we're American soldiers! We've been kicking ass for 200 years! We're 10 and 1! Now we don't have to worry about whether or not we practiced. We don't have to worry about whether Captain Stillman wants to have us hung. All we have to do is to be the great American fighting soldier that is inside each one of us. Now do what I do, and say what I say. And make me proud.
