For those who do not know, on FB there are a variety of applications including quizzes and polls that one may participate in. Most are silly, but there are a few serious ones.
Well, I answered "yes" to a poll asking if gay marriage should be made legal. As a comment, I smugly wrote "There is no public policy reason not to allow it." I figured I had an air-tight case when suddenly BOOM. A stranger sent me a private message that took the wind out of me.
She wrote, "yeah because you are gay and gross."
SLAM! Wow, I did not see THAT coming!" I'm gay AND I'm gross. I mean, I already knew about the gross part, but I had no idea I was gay! The force of her logic knocked me over like a ton of bricks. WHAM! What insight! I felt as if my facade of ego had been torn away by her probing factual analysis leaving me afraid and alone, drowning in the shock of my denial.
I'm afraid I sent an inadequate and embarrassing response. In my desperation I lashed out with this pathetic defense.
"Apropos of what?
"If you are referring to to that gay marriage poll, your response is ad hominim and, therefore, irrelevant. Can you give a single reason why marriage equality should be disallowed? I mean a single reason that does not require others to obey your religious prejudices?
"And in point of fact, I'm not gay. Not even a little. I've been married since 2000 to a delightful lady and we have been together since 1992. So you're wrong.
"Besides, it is uptight bigots like you who turn my stomach."
Of course she did not dignify my laughable note with an answer.
I have to go cry for awhile.
