Waiters can be such douchebags when your credit card is declined.
We were at a glorified burrito hole, and he comes back and hisses in my ear 'do you have another?'. Then he stares at me like I've got the plague. I ask him why, and he tsks me. TSKS ME! The douche. So I give him another card, which points to the same bank account and it clears just fine. Which of course it did. I've got enough money there to pay for those damned fru fru burritos ten thousand times over. He of course at this point is staring at me like I'm a black man at a white fountain in pre-civil rights Georgia. He fails to say have a nice evening, or to even talk to us after that, despite him being super sweet and friendly all evening. I still tip the douche, but I swear, as we were walking out he was acting like I had just jumped up on the table and dropped a dookie in the salsa bowl.

I'm sure it never occurred to him that the reason it declined was that his salsa and guacamole encrusted credit card machine might not have read the card correctly, as bits of food slathered in the scanning device are most certainly not conducive to optimal operation.

The swine.

1. Are you channeling Midlo?
Because in which case, it really means all your money got spent on pens and useless electronics.

4. If I was channeling midlo, I would be making feeble attempts to rhyme.
Which, personally, I think is a big fucking waste of time.

7. Don't worry. This is happening to a lot of very credit-worthy borrowers due to the inability
of the credit card companies to keep up with the traffic.

It has happened to me twice in the last week, and it does happen more based on the number of times I use a card in a short length of time.

Usually, you should get a call from the fraud department following the transaction.

That is a better situation than having the transaction halted midstream, but more frequently this does seem to be happening.

9. It's happened a few times to me. I'm gonna have to go back to sticking a big bill in the wallet.
Hidden in a nook.

For just such nonsense.

10. Was your card cracked like the guy's was at the store a couple of weeks ago
This guy was embarrassed that his card was refused, well actually the message was something about the machine couldn't read it. The poor overused card was cracked nearly in half! I think he needs to stop putting it in his rear pocket.

12. The data strip may be wearing out. My husband did that to one of his cards
It just wouldn't read properly but if they typed in the card number, it went through. He got a replacement card that almost lasted to the regular replacement time.

15. regardless, that's a shit-tastic way to treat a customer
and I help manage a restaurant, so I would know. Cards being declined happens often enough, and it's no skin off my nose to ask politely if they'd like me to try another card. Goodness knows it's happened to me. And 8 times out of 10, it's a processing error. Most folks are perfectly aware of when they're down to their last few bucks, thank you very much.

I don't know why you tipped. I'm not sure I would've.

16. A couple of years ago my card was declined at a store
near where I work.

A friend I was traveling with and I agreed that I'd pay for the plane tickets and she'd cover some of the other expenses. I charged it on my debit card and American Airlines put a double hold on my account then my bank froze it. My receipts reflected the correct amount and I didn't realize there was a problem with the tickets until the next day when a cashier at a store I use to frequent handed the card to me and said I must be broke. I paid in cash and never went back. Yeah there was a problem with my card but that was still uncalled for. I've told this to a few employees from there I've run into and they say they have told management.

I use to work at a store where we'd have problems with credit cards during bad weather. That defiantly made the holidays interesting. My "I know it's not your fault..." speech was pretty good :D.

18. "I still tip the douche..." See, that's where you messed up.
You should have told him what you told us and informed him that his snooty attitude just lost him a tip, and he needs to be nicer to people if he wants to work in food service.
