I just bought a Tibetan singing bowl
I've been asked and I accepted to be lead teacher for a 4's class at the preschool I work at. This coming September, I will have my own class for the first time. I wanted to gift myself a special something and that is what I bought. Instead of yelling over their little voices, I will use my singing bowl to get their attention. It's a much more peaceful approach. Just thought I would share! :)
Anybody use a singing bowl for meditation or reiki?

2. It's little, to fit in the palm of my hand
I didn't want to spend a whole lot and I wanted to be able to carry it around easily.
Requests not accepted! :P However, I did see a youtube video of a guy playing singing bowls of different sizes. It sounded beautiful!

3. Cool
The little ones are more useable. I find that holding them dampens the sound, but that may just be because of my over sized bear paws.

The really big ones are fun, but definitely not as portable.

4. I bought a cushion for it, so it all fits in my hand
Making it sing is really cool. My dog did not like the sound of it at first. I had to put it down for him to sniff and now he's fine with it. My kids loved it. My daughter is into yoga and meditation, so she is wanting to have one of her own.

5. I have one.
I don't use it to meditate. It's too loud, and I'm all about the quiet.

The reason I got one however, was because of a theatre thing, where someone opened a show by walking up in front of the crowd and got their attention by using a singing bowl. It knocked me on my a**.

It's enough of a "different" sound that I'd imagine it would work with kids that age. They won't know that sound and it will catch their interest. It's kinda magic....

6. What kind of music does it sing?
Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 10:07 PM by Jamastiene
If there is a punk rock or a folk one, I might get that instead of a bird one day. It's bound to be easier to take care of than an expensive bird. :P

7. I bought one once. I returned it when it refused to sing "Freebird"
Fucking cheap-ass bowl.
