NPR- The Least Appropriate Wedding Songs Ever
<<Planning a wedding involves a lot of decision-making. After all, not only is it the bride and groom's special day, but it also necessitates being special in front of as many people as they can afford to feed. Sometimes, between deciding on the cummerbund color, the bachelor-party policy and the cake flavor, the music styling can get lost. All Things Considered recently asked its listeners and commenters to send in stories about the worst choices for wedding songs they've ever encountered.>>

Also, read the comments -- some of them are priceless

3. "Sex" by Berlin - 1983, I think.
Wait, maybe that's the MOST appropriate song. I'm not sure.

7. Whenever parents my age (44) get bent out of shape about those rap songs the kids listen to...
Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 03:47 PM by OmahaBlueDog
I remind them of that song.

<<Feel the fire, feel my love inside you it's so right
There's the sound and the smell of love in my mind
I'm a toy, come and play with me, say the word now
Wrap your legs around mine and ride me tonight

I'm a man - I'm a goddess
I'm a man - Well I'm a virgin
I'm a man - I'm a blue movie
I'm a man - I'm a bitch
I'm a man - I'm a geisha
I'm a man - I'm a little girl
And we make love together

Slip and slide in your wet delight, feel the blood flow
Not too fast, don't be slow, my love's in your hands

I'm a man - I'm a boy
I'm a man - Well I'm your mother
I'm a man - I'm a one night stand
I'm a man - Am I bi
I'm a man - I'm a slave
I'm a man - I'm a little girl
And we make love together

Skin to skin, tongue to oooh! Come on honey hold tight
Come inside, it's a passion play just for you
Let's get lost in that magic place all alone now
Drink your fill from my fountain of love, wet your lips

I'm a man - I'm a teaser
I'm a man - Well I'm a virgin
I'm a man - I'm a one night stand
I'm a man - I'm a drug
I'm a man - Well I'm your slave
I'm a man - I'm a dream divine
And we make love together

I'm a man - I'm a goddess
I'm a man - I'm a hooker
I'm a man - I'm a blue movie
I'm a man - I'm a slut
I'm a man - I'm a geisha
I'm a man - I'm YOUR babe
I'm a man - I'm a dream divine
And we make love together
And we'll make love forever >>

I don't know about anyone else, but that is a song I remember from High School!

8. The CD has an 8th track - expanded version of SEX.
Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 04:12 PM by HopeHoops
I heard Terri Nunn on an interview many years back. She said the original version was really tame and sort of sucked. Her mother heard it and said, "Terri, hun. If you're going to do a song about sex, at LEAST do it right!" So she did.

On Edit:
I'm 46 and I STILL love that song. My problem with rap is the complete lack of musical merit combined with random profanity. There really isn't a way to compare "SEX" to rap, but I understand why you would bring that up. You might also mention "Brown Sugar" and "Mama's Got a Squeeze Box".

9. I once heard "Your Cheatin Heart" at a wedding.
Apparently they didn't approve the playlist with the DJ in advance.

10. A wedding party once came into the hotel bar where we were playing rockabilly
and asked us for a slow song for the bride and groom. Told em we didn't have any slow songs but had one that at least was sort of medium tempo. We didn't even think about the title till we'd already started--"Forever's Much Too Long".............true story from about 10 years ago.

11. I remember when "I honestly love you" was all the rage of dedications and weddings.
It's a song about a married woman saying goodbye to a married man she can't have, but people apparently only heard the title line.

12. People not listening to the lyrics was the common thread
In the NPR piece, they talked about people liking the title line and not analyzing the rest of the lyrical content (e.g. "Every Breath You Take" by Sting) or they had a romantic association with an otherwise inappropriate song (like the couple who insisted on having "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" played because they loved the movie "Top Gun").

Having said that, I can't understand why anyone would want "Send in the Clowns" ....and why the Judy Collins version; if you have to play that song, do it right, and get Sinatra's version.
