1. I'm sorry to hear that, TK421.
I assume that this was out of the blue?

Regardless, that sucks. I hope you find something soon.

21. Thank you man, yeah...it was out of the blue, sort of
we all knew something was going to happen...hours were going to get cut in certain departments and certain titles were going to be slashed.

I hope I find something, too...I'm not the kind of person who would be content to sit and collect unemployment checks, I need to work and need the benefits of a full-time job.

Thanks for your kind words...I'll keep everyone updated on this

30. LOL...........
Take it or leave it: I have been unemployed for about 2 months now. What I have done to keep myself sane is to take some time after job-hunting, and do some good things for myself. Since my layoff, I have been eating better and exercising a hell of a lot more. I'm hoping to build some healthier habits that I can carry back into my employed life (whenever that happens - hopefully soon). I was working so much in my last job that I never had the time. So I'm looking at it as kind of a mixed blessing.

That said, I know we all have debts and responsibilities, and they don't usually wait for times to get better. So do what you can to keep your head above water, but remember this too shall pass.

Good luck TK! There's always room in the Rebel Alliance! :toast:

I'm sorry, buddy, and I feel for you. :pals: Getting fired or laid off absolutely sucks.

I remember the first time I was ever fired; I wanted to slash my throat, I felt so worthless. This country really rubs it into you: if you don't work, you're dog-meat.

I'm sending prayers and good wishes for you to find another good job quickly, and get back up on your feet. Hang in there, we're with you... :grouphug:

she has helped me enough over the years...I couldn't possibly ask her for anything more at this time. No, this is a situation that only I, myself can get out of...and I will.....

I have been in much, MUCH worse situations than this in my life but I go by that old saying.....and it applies "Dump me in a bucket of shit, and I come out smelling like a rose". So, you see..these fuckers who have me down at the moment won't win in the long run, and I will turn out just fine.

I'm confident about that much..that I am

18. I was pulled into the office about 2:30 ( which seems to be prime-time for termination )
they sat me down...they said ( she said....she being the new boss they brought in about a month ago ) that they looked at all of the positions filled and felt that mine was the easiest to eliminate ( good luck with that, you fuckers....and I can't get into the specifics of that since it would take you forever to read it.....literally ). So, they offered me three weeks severance plus the paycheck I get tomorrow ( for last week ) and a paycheck on June 19th ( for this work week ). No vacation time banked..since this is a particular kind of non-profit organization..they are exempt from such things. Needless to say, I have been at this job since June 12th 2001 and know it well. I know it well enough that I trained ( and managed ) six different co-workers in that period of time since my original trainer and co-worker passed away due to a tragic bicycle accident. I have been an extremely loyal and effective employee there....even bringing in new subscribers to this theatre. Why my job in particular was cut, I couldn't tell you...THEY couldn't tell me ( or wouldn't...and I would be more inclined to think that they wouldn't ).

So....tomorrow I have to do something that I've never had to do before...get unemployment. Years ago, I applied for it, and that was while I was living in Florida. I had to sit in this "classroom" and watch a video on how cheating unemployment could get you in trouble with the law ( scary, scary ). Thankfully, one of the places I filled out an application at ( walked in..that is how I've gotten every job I've had...fuck the papers and internet ) called me and wanted me to come in for an interview. That was back in 1997 and I have been employed ever since...sure, I've had some shitty, dirty jobs but it was money.

Now, $6000.00 or slightly more in credit card debt, no car ( cause I simply can't afford one and all of the expenses associated with owning one ) I find myself in a position of collecting an unemployment check that ( from what I have been told ) would only be 2/3 of what I was normally collecting weekly. Then there is rent...and electric, and cable ( which I suppose I could do without, except for internet job searching purposes... ) and my cell phone ( which, having a Mom with constant health problems who is constantly being rushed to the hospital with something ) this is NOT an option..I must have that phone and can't afford to do without it now. One good thing that came out of this is I just completed a debt management program dealing with two credit cards ( Bank of America and Washington Mutual, formerly Bank One ). That means another $140.00 a month, for what it's worth...

I deposited my three severance checks about two hours ago....and just got back from the bar. I will be honest....I can't remember being this drunk since about six months ago at a Christmas party. I just got off the phone with my sister who was pissed that I was even at a bar, but I did just come out and tell her. It was kind of a WTF situation, and what else will you do with your time today? Feel sorry for myself at home? I talked to someone at the bar ( recently laid off also ) and she told me that you could STILL work part-time while collecting unemployment and I didn't know that. I've never collected unemployment, and I've always thought that if you have a job ( any job ) you are barred from getting any check from unemployment...I will research this further....

Sorry for this long ramble....I didn't intend for it to be this long, but I guess it just turned out that way.....and, well....I guess I could use some of those legendary lounge vibes right about now..

It all sounds very unfair. They'll probably regret it, but by then you'll have a fabulous new job!

Re the pt-time thing- I don't know how it works in all states, but in NJ they subtract the part-time job earnings from your unemployment check.

51. Welcome, brother!
May your stay be short and pleasant.

Do not fear change any longer.

If you're going to be laid off, this is the best time for it; nobody will bat an eyelash about it.

You don't have to explain yourself, the economy explains it all.

There is nothing wrong with you, it is just the crummy economy.

What can you do.

And that, my friend, should be your attitude.

It is not your fault, it is not their fault, it is just the economy.

You have nothing bad to say about your former employer; It was a great company, and you understand their decision fully.

let me repeat that...

It was a great company, and you understand their decision fully.

You are ready to move on to the next challenge.

Hopefully, with a positive attitude, you will land your next job before you can say: Where do I file for unemployment?

hiring me back....and I'm not so sure about wanting to do that if they offered. This place is the polar opposite of the job I entered back in 2001, and I would just be stepping into the same shit-pond that I was kicked out of. Shame, I really do care about this place and hope they don't make any more decisions that are so rash as to affect the other employees who have been there for many years.

The same employees who contributed to the theatres initial success, that is

62. I'm sorry to hear this, but it's good that you'll be able to collect.
Even though you hate the thought of having to apply for unemployment, at least you'll have come money coming in. My job got eliminated at the end of December and I'm still out of work. Unfortunately, because I worked for a church I cannot collect unemployment.

73. You will kick back for awhile, de-stress, enjoy yourself...
and then get another job.

It is the circle of life and the way of the world.

75. I'm gonna try to dude....jobs are really hard to come by nowadays...especially
around here.

I'm looking at a hospital up the road from me ( I can walk to it ) but I'm going to unemployment first

76. I've been through this 3 times...
One day at a time...

Get unemployment, then go step by step...

Enjoy whatever time off you have, because you WILL be working again...

It is all a cycle...don't panic...I am wrong about a lot of things...but I have been 100% right about this when counseling my friends. It is just the way things work.

Be happy and have a few beers.

I'm very lucky to be in a field that seems to be recession proof...What is your field? I had a period about 2 years ago with job issues and I found a lot of resources that I might be able to recommend to you..
