And I don't think Johnny Depp would fund it for me.

I'd prefer to be buried, I think.

3. Depends on the locale.
Cremation is usually cheaper, but often not by much. Different locales have different county codes regarding the type of vault necessary to use to confine the coffin underground.

Yeah, it's kind of sick how much I know about this fucking subject. x(

7. I would check with several funeral homes in the area about their
'complete' packages. And, I mean make sure you get the 'complete' figure. Not this a la carte crap.

4. burial=5000 to 8000
depending on the casket, the "amenities" a funeral home provides, yada, yada.

A cremation is about $1500-$2000 depending on where you are in the country. Like most people, I want my ashes scattered over the Atlantic Ocean. No use in burying me--I'd rather not be bug food.

11. a simple burial in CT will go $10,000
Not the cardboard box simple, but a decent looking wood casket, a blanket of evergreens with some callas. No extravaganza.

12. I remember going over the list with the funeral home for burial.
It's been a while, but I remember there being a list of separate charges that in most cases wouldn't apply to a cremation. These are some of the separate listings I remember:

Casket, from the very simple to the extreme. Prices vary. Waterproof caskets cost more and yes, they'll play to your emotions on that.

Concrete Vault/burial liner. There was a price range on these going into the thousands.

Opening the gravesite

Use of the facilities. It varies from: no visitation, morning of the funeral visitation, to one or two day visitation. Each additional day adds up. 13 yrs ago I remember seeing the charge as $1500 for a day visitation.

This one really blew my mind, there was a parking lot charge and again each day of visitation added an additional charge.

There are extra costs as well if they place the obituary, if they get the death certificates for you, etc. And...a weekend funeral can be very expensive.

My Fil was the latest where we had info about the total cost of the funeral. His was $12000 in 2001. He was buried on a Sunday with a full Sat. visitation. They charged double for a Sunday funeral.
