I shit you not. The local paper's web site doesn't have the story up, at least not that I can find, but I have it in print. Two (apparently dumbfuck) brothers were evicted from a trailer they were living in with some couple. This is rural PA for reference. The older brother convinced the younger one to kill the guy who owned the trailer and then commit suicide. He tried it. Despite pulling the trigger several times, the gun didn't go off. The clip was inserted backwards.

The guy who was the target of the hit later said he knew it couldn't have been just the attacker since "he's not smart enough to know where to get a gun". Apparently, neither is the older brother. The police are seeking a third person.

How the FUCK do you put a clip in backwards? None of my guns would take one that way (not without falling out).

3. It seems like the brother who was "convinced" to kill himself had issues, too.
WTF is going on there.

4. That can't be right. I've personally owned & used over 300 firearms, and...

..I've never seen a gun which would physically allow
its magazine to be inserted "backwards".

Perhaps this pair of genuises put the rounds into the magazine backwards,
and the "local reporter" didn't know anything about firearms,
and got the story wrong?

I've certainly seen many EGREGIOUS errors made by "reporters"
who didn't know jack shit about firearms, but I've never even
HEARD OF a weapon which would allow such an error.

Edit: Just wanted to add that I grew up in Central PA,
so I'm not at all surprised by this particular mixture
of stupidity and firearms.

9. Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
I can't figure how a clip could be inserted backwards.

10. I live in SE PA, and have to say this surprises me not a bit. We have an

oversupply of dumbass in our area (Berks County) and we ain't the worst around here, either.....

I agree with you on the bullets wrong-side front - I have owned several hundred guns myself over the last 40 years, and they generally won't do that backwards mag thing, but it is possible to partially load some of them with the bullet toward the rear....
(I once heard about a .44 magnum revolver that was confiscated by the police - it was loaded with 2 .22 rounds in each chamber! I guess he added .22 and .22, got .44 and thought he was smart...)

People like these are among the many reasons I carry a gun.

11. I grew up in Blair & Bedford counties....
...So I'm very familiar with the "oversupply of dumbasses" situation
in Central PA.

But that .22 + .22 = .44 thing is a new one on me.

That's the thing about dumbasses: there is no "bottom" to their dumbassery.

I fully concur with everything you wrote. This sounds like ignorance on the part of reporters for sure.

23. One of the few firearms I retain was the brainchild of the man who INVENTED the "magazine".
I have a model 1899 Remington/Lee bolt-action rifle;
the "Lee" in that designation stands for a firearms engineer
by the name of James Parris Lee.

He is also the 'Lee' in the "SMLE" .303 British rifles that we're all
so familiar with.(Short Magazine Lee Enfield)

He INVENTED the horizontal-feed box magazine, and I own one of the rifles
that used it FIRST.

And that magizine only goes in ONE WAY.

15. Two married couples could do it fairly comfortably - by trailer standards, anyway.
Or four people each willing to share a bedroom.

12. Sad. But, it was a handgun, so the clip likely would have gone in, but
wouldn't have "seated" allowing rounds to enter the chamber.

What a sad story, regardless. How could a brother do that to his own?

14. When I ask this, I must point out that
I am not trying to be confrontational at all. I point this out because the first time I wrote down this question, I immediately saw how it could look snotty, given that tone can't be relayed very well in posts.

I ask in all seriousness and with no sarcasm: can you name any handgun which would allow a backwards clip to go in?

I have owned dozens of guns and fired a couple hundred more, and I can't. There are certainly guns I have never owned or fired, though, so I'm wondering if you know of any which would allow it.

16. No sarcasm inferred at all.
I took into consideration it was likely a cheap and old .22, considering. I've seen a number of really crappy guns with an almost perpendicular butt to slide configuration (I couldn't possibly name a make/model, mostly from gun store "bargain bin" views. I pictured the clip likely going in but not allowing a chambering. It's all I could come up with since the article states that the clip was indeed in backwards. No gun I've ever owned, held nor seen particularly up close would allow it.

I am assuming a lot, but it's really the only way I could think that this happened.

17. I'm sure if there is such a gun, Raven makes it.
I know a couple down the street that has an old Raven .25. I had never seen an actual turd fire a bullet until I fired a round out of that thing.

18. Yup.
That someone might rely on shit arms like that to protect themselves and their loved ones is a shame. "But it only costs $100." isn't a lifesaving mantra.

Shit, now that I think of it, their P25 was only like $50 MSRP or something wretched like that.

Tires, toilet paper, beer, LASIK surgery and guns are my favorite examples.

Your assessment of "only costs $100" is spot on.

20. Agreed.
When I get my CCW, because I think my Colt Officer's Compact may be too heavy for Florida summer daily carry (shorts and t-shirt, etc), I'm eyeballing the Sig P238. Yeah it's $600, but it's a Sig, and I've always wanted a .380 for backup carry (can't afford a Colt Mustang now).

21. DO NOT GET A COLT .380.
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 12:56 AM by Zavulon
I've owned a couple myself, and they still don't eject factory loads properly. You'd need hot loads to make the gun work, and those are a bit expensive to get in the practice you should have with any weapon you own. There's also the issue of having 100% trust in your gun, which is a bit hard for me given my experience with them (friends of mine bought Colt .380s too, had the same problem).

I have at one time or another subscribed to every gun magazine known to man, and all of them have printed articles on this problem. They tried their best not to because Colt went bankrupt after Beretta got the military contract and the publications were trying to show support (which is why Massad Ayoob wrote about 800 articles calling the 1911 the finest all-purpose gun ever made), but that's not anything you can shut up about if you want to be a respectable source.

The only time I had experienced such shock regarding a gun i thought would be reliable was when I discovered in the late 80's or early 90's that my Ruger P-85 fired in the safe position. I still have it, but I never keep the fucker loaded in the house. (I have a P-95 now too, that's the one I keep loaded).

You'll love the Sig, though. Worth every fucking cent. I have (and love) a Browning Hi-Power 9mm (that one stays loaded as well), have fired the Sig and love them both. I recommend you test-fire both.

(Edited to add that I'm only assuming that you'll love the Sig; the one I was referring to and love is the P226).

22. Really?
Good to know. I've admired the .380 Mustang as long as I can remember. Hadn't heard about the jamming.

Hearing that, I'm feeling less remorse about passing up the Mustang and wanting the Sig. The P226 is a great sidearm, but it's even more out of "summer Florida daily carry" for me. A true military sidearm.
