2. My mom had alot of pain in her hip. Now she has none. She never complains.

The operation and rehab were tough. But it was well worth it.

3. My dad had both hips replaced.

Not at the same time,of course. Everything went fine,the operation itself is quite quick.

9. They seem to be planning to keep her in there for hours

but maybe most of that time is just for her to wake up from the spinal (anesthesia).

4. We recently ran into a woman I worked with - now retired - who had a hip

replaced. she uses a cane and is very careful on stairs, but she is having NO PROBLEMS and no pain, just nerves getting used to the idea.
My wife had both knees replaced last year and is doing just fine, walking and standing even going to a gym several days a week using steppers, etc.

There is pain after the surgery, but even the recovery usually is much less painful than the old joint, and both the surgery and the joint are very much improved in recent years.

5. My mother had a hip replacement two years ago.

She is now 67 years old. She did fine and she is back to herself and the activities that she always loved (golf, yoga, walking). The rehab took some time, but it was well worth it.
Good luck to your Dad's fiancee'. (that is really cute, btw)

6. A friend of mine had both hips done two years ago.

It was so bad before that he couldn't walk. Last winter he went skiing.

She's back to hiking up mountains in New Hampshire now and just celebrated her 70th birthday.

when the operation was supposed to be over but I still hadn't heard anything yet. Update below, but in a nutshell, it's done and she's fine.

19. UPDATE: Thanks, everybody! She's fine.

Started later than they were expecting, and then they wouldn't let visitors into her room until she could move the leg, and the anesthesia took it's time about wearing off. But at 5:30 after 9 hours (they had had to arrive several hours early as well) my dad got to see her and she's doing great. Supposed to be walking on it tomorrow. Yippie! What a relief! Thanks again to everyone.

20. my brother in law wishes he had done it sooner. He was really in a lot of pain

due to rheumatoid arthritis. The replacement made a world of difference.

22. My brother-in-law's mother is in her early 80s, and

had both hips done - 6 weeks apart, I think. She's better than ever.
