All right, can someone explain California to me?
As usual, I am either the stupidest person on this website or the only one ballsy enough to ask the question, even though others are wondering the same thing (it's probably the former.)

But what the hell is a recall election? How can 200 people be running for governor? How does this work? And! Why can't we do this to Chimpy? Explain it to me like I'm 10 years old, because I never took a government class in high school.

I'm ashamed to post this in GD, they're so freaking serious over there. :)

2. In a nutshell
the first part of the ballot will have y or n for the recall - they need 50% plus 1 for NO RECALL.

The second part of the ballot has all the names - even tho you voted NO on the recall, you will vote for a candidate just in case. It would take a very small percentage of the votes for one of the multitude to win.

California - from I can determine - is the only state that has this. It should have failed when it went to court, but it didn't. The law was written for extreme misconduct by the governor. Just another case of the pugs playing dirty.

4. 18 states have a "recall" component
There was a thread on here yeaterday listing them.

Basically you have to get a certain number of signatures (1 Million in Ca.) from registered voters and residents of the state. There are specific requirements as to who can collect these sigantures too, there were charges that Congressman Issa hired pros from out of state but a court ruled that either it didn't matter or that they would ignore it. Down the memory hole on that part.

In order to be on the ballot you had to collect a whopping 65 signatures (residents/voters) and pay $3,500.

The first question on the recal will be

"should Governor Davis be recalled"

Then voters will pick who they would like to see replace him IF a majority of people answer yes to the first question.

So if 49.9% of the people say NO on the first question Davis is recalled. He can't get his name on the second part either. So Gary Coleman, from a lot of people checking his name on the second question, could WIN with 15% of the vote while Davis actually got 49.9%.

Don't laugh about the Coleman thing Huntington WV elected a 24 year old Marshall U student as mayor because so many people couldn't stand either of the other candidates, the kid put his name on the ballot as a joke. His only previous work experience was at McDonald's.

8. But this is insane...
That doesn't make any sense! Why can't Davis get his name on the second part?

6. 200 can run because......
The filing fee was a mere $3500 and then you needed 60 signatures.

200 people in California must have $3500 and 60 friends and want to be on "Entertainment Tonight" $3500 for fifteen minutes of fame is cheap.

The names will be subject to a random drawing for placement on the ballot varying my voting districts.

A recall election is a lot like a tax rollback election, get enough signatures on a petition. 10-15% of whoever voted in the last election.

High School goverment classes do not cover this situation.

Vote Father Guido Sarducci, aka Don Novello. He's my current main man at the circus.
