I'm finally starting to appreciate The Rheostatics.
I purchased a few of their albums a long time ago because of their association with Barenaked Ladies (during BNL's first few albums). While I liked a few songs, I couldn't get into the rest of the material. I recently finished Dave Bidini's book, and while reading about the band online, I discovered a free download of a soundboard recording of their final show. I think I'm finally starting to get it. Of course, they're broken up now. Same thing happened to me with another great Canadian act, The Tea Party. Broke up before I ever had the chance to see them.

1. I saw The Tea Party live back in, I think , 2002. Not a huge fan, but it was a good show.

2. "...we're all richer for having seen them tonight..."
...Gord Downie from The Tragically Hip thanks The Rheostatics, who preceded the band that night, at the opening of "Grace, Too" on "Live Between Us."

3. That's another band I have yet to get into.
I've listened to most of the first disc of their "greatest hits" collection. (I can't remember the actual name of it.)

4. "Grace, Too"...especially the live version on this album...is my "go-to" TH song.
There's just something about the way that Downie spits out something as innocent as "I...come from DOWNTOWN..." that makes downtown sound like the last place on earth you'd want to visit.
