Moving is turning into a time-consuming pain in the ass.
I haven't even packed a single box yet.

I'm spending all my time contacting companies, agencies, doctors, various offices, and other places to notify them that my address will change and they need to upgrade my records so that my life doesn't come to a screeching halt.

I'm still not done with half of the notifications either because I'm getting bureaucratic run-arounds about where to submit some of the change of address notifications. x(

This really sucks. I hope I never move again.

1. Oh, ugh, Thom...
That bites, I'm sorry. There ought to be some sort of central address database!

3. If there was, no agency would agree to use it.
Because they're all viciously protecting their autonomy. Only the sales scum would use it to track everyone down and harass us better. x(

It's unfortunate, but there just isn't any other way. :(

5. There is one in Germany...
It's a pain in the ass to have to register/unregister/re-register at a central office every time you move, but it sure does make *some* things easier! Then again, you have to jump through 1000 hoops for loads of other things, too, so it probably balances out in the end.

 I hope you never have to move again, too!

I know have a drop-dead move date of May 23rd. It all has to be done by then or else I'm screwed.

8.  I would be wonderful if you were close enough that you could.
:(

Right now what I need most is a admin-assistant though. I'm sleeping too much, and too backed up on stuff I have to do to keep up with everything.

It would be wonderful if I was wealthy enough to have one. :P

7. Tell. Me. About. It.
4 times in one year, and I will be moving again in Nov. Kill me now.

I hope you get to stay put this time, ThomCat.

9. I don't understand how you're still standing.
I do understand where some of your gray hair come from through. :(

If I had to do this 5 times I'd shoot myself, because I'd fuck something up and be without some essential service or support that I absolutely need and then I'd be shit out of luck.

You must be an expert at doing this smoothly at this point. Though I'm sorry you have had to be.

10. There's a big difference between being an expert and being insane
I've gone over the edge with moving. I swear every time that it's the last time, but we always end up taking a temp place because we can't commit to anything out of habit. At least we don't have to deal with bureaucracies like you do. I'd be in a tower with a gun if that happened.

11. My dear ThomCat!
That just sucks majorly, sweetie...

And for many reasons, including this one, I too hope you never have to move again either...

I think that once you get past all these damned hurdles you will be very happy there...

12. I hope so.
My big concern is that because it's farther from Manhattan I might end up more isolated. :(

Everyone I know is scattered about, so it's all about how close you are to Manhattan. That's the central point.

I'll just have to hope the positive points outweigh that. :)

or make phone calls on my lunch break?

Don't worry about the boxes...they will pack and move this weekend without you lifting a finger...it is magic!

as for the rest, hopefully getting once the move is settled there will be new freinds in this neighborhood.

(((hug)))

15. On the weekend I want to spend at least some of the time
enjoying your company and playing with the dogs. I don't want to load you up with work, even though I know you'd probably accept it.

You're far too important as a friend to be an assistant all the time. Besides, I get lonely all week home alone. I look forward to your company on weekends. :)

So, no, I'm not giving you any more of this stuff to do. I'll drug myself enough to stay awake enough to get through it all. That's what the wakey meds are for. :P

14. Change of address notification goes to YOUR post office!
Sorry to make that sound so simple! I've had LOTS of confusion with that! I moved, but husband didn't, but they were sending me what should have been HIS mail! (Finally he's moved too.)

ThomCat, it WILL end, but moving IS awful. I have problems dealing with 'small' things, like where to put small stuff, so can sit in a room forever w/o doing anything! Have boxes and bags around, and have moved 2 or 3 times in the last 2 or 3 years. (See, I don't even know where I am!)

Good Luck to us!!!

:wtf:

16. That part is simple, but it's temporary
and in the meantime I still have to put in permanent changes of address with each and everyone separately. The post office change of address notification at the post office is only intended to be a temporary solution. :)

I'm sorry you're dealing with this too. :(

I deal with all that small stuff by mostly throwing it away. I'm becoming much more minimalist in my approach to "stuff". I really don't want to become a pack-rat, and I really don't want to own a lot of stuff I don't need.

You're very right though. If you keep any of that small stuff then you have to figure out where to put it, and then remember where it is when you're searching for it. That's always a hassle.

17. When I left the house (2+ years ago)
Edited on Fri May-08-09 03:48 AM by elleng
I was VERY minimalist, have added SOME stuff, but still live minimally. But house (which we're finally out of) was ours (4 of us) for 25 years; large, beautiful home, and now everything is out of it, somewhere. Threw a lot away, and then think of items I haven't seen.

Have boxes and bags, which may or may not ever be unpacked.

19. I SO hate to move....
I'm still working on some personal business that will finally allow me to ditch the roommate and get a place of my own. And, hopefully, that will be my last move for a long, long, LONNNNNNG time.

Hope it all works out for ya! If I were closer, I'd surely be there to lend you my heavy lifting skills!
