1. YES!!!!!!
I love that stuff. I love monster trucks. Give me crunching metal and total destruction, a hot dog, a beer, and just let me watch.

Is that an old Maverick? I had one of those. Great car......

2. Yeah, I loved my Maverick, but that looks more like a Pinto or a Vega.

10. That's an AMC car.
The round headlights are a giveaway. It could be a Matador, a Pacer, even a Gremlin.

11. I say Matador because the low profile of the trunk
Even crunched up like that, the Pacer and Gremlin wouldn't have such a smooth line over the rear wheels.

14. That was my first thought as well, but
the Matador was a tank. I mean, that car was HUGE.

I realize we're talking about a monster truck crushing it here, but I'd have expected it to look bigger if it's a Matador.

Did AMC have another sedan of smaller size that I failed to mention?

16. I only remember the Matador because we had one
Ours was the "Barcelona" version, which meant IIRC that the backseat passenger windows were smaller. If the one in the pic is a Matador, I think it's the other version, judging by the shape of those windows.

You're right, though--the car was like fifteen feet wide.

18. Here's a story about big cars.
My father had a 1971 BelAir which was a former Ontario police car; it had a much bigger and hotter engine than the typical 1971. That car was HUGE.

I did my very first driving lessons in a 1959 Buick (it should be pointed out that this is because Dad loves big and old cars; I'm only 45). That car was HUGE.

I took and passed my first stateside road teat in a tank of a car - a 1965 Caddy with a 472 engine. I actually did a really good job with the K-turn and the parallel park. That car was HUGE.

And despite all of that, the first time I ever drove a Matador, I found myself unable to properly park at a mall or at a supermarket. I had to pick the unoccupied areas at the far ends of the lots, and when I got out I discovered that I was hovering over both white lines - EVEN BACK THEN.

The Matador I drove was a monster, which is why I refused to commit to Matador in my guess. However, you and one other person in the thread did so, and you actually owned one, so I defer to your judgment.

Still, the Matador was a tank. A fucking TANK.

21. Don't count yourself out yet--the 'other person in the thread' might have been me!
Force of habit--I always vote twice because I live in a Red county.

Incidentally, one of my older sisters took her test in our 1971 Pontiac Grand Safari, which I believe is the size of a diesel locomotive and got about 8 miles per gallon. She lovingly referred to it as "the sleek speed machine."

22. Oh, right, it was you.
Still, you owned one. I therefore trust your judgment over my own in this matter.

Do you remember if AMC had any other widely-sold cars besides the Matador, Pacer and Gremlin? Whether you're right or not, I think we can both agree the car in the picture is an AMC product.
