So I worked on a Habitat house today.
It will be the first 'green' house, LEEDS certified (Google it), in Alabama.
WooHoo.
:bounce:

There was a nice group of students from Lake Forest College (near Chicago) who came down on their spring break to help out. 16 hours on a school bus.
Cool bunch of kids and fun to work with. What they might have lacked in construction expertise they more than made up for in enthusiasm.

My heavy lifting days are long gone, so I mainly 'supervised', kept out of the way, and served as a gofer and ladder holder.

Last night there was a reception at the build site which Miz t. and I and some friends attended. A buffet was provided by a local restaurant owner, Lucy Buffet.

She's Jimmy's big sister.

We had gumbo, shrimp salad, and Lucy's signature LA (Lower Alabama) Caviar*.
It was all delicious.

Lulu's Lower Alabama Caviar Recipe

3 (15 ounce) cans black-eyed peas, rinsed and drained
1/4 cup chopped red onions
3 tablespoons chopped green bell peppers
3 tablespoons chopped red bell peppers
3 tablespoons chopped yellow bell peppers
1/2 cup quartered cherry tomatoes
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
salt and pepper

Combine black-eyed peas, onion, peppers, tomatoes, parsley, vinegar, oil and sugar. Season with salt and pepper. Marinate for 12 to 24 hours before serving. Serve with crackers or tortilla chips.

3. I figured since I got a free meal last night I owed them.
;-)
I'm going back on Thursday, the next volunteer day.
I need to push back from the computer some.
