Cat peoples, how often do you change their water?
I mostly change it when I can see that there are food particles or hair in there, but changed it yesterday because she didn't seem to be drinking (based on litter box evidence) and she had a little lapping party immediately. Sooooo, daily is better regardless of how the water looks?

1. The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger doesn't like fresh water.
Edited on Mon Mar-02-09 10:33 AM by Heidi
He's rather drink out of the koi pond or a rain puddle than drink fresh water. He will sometimes take a sip from his water bowl a couple of days after I've changed the water. As a result, we keep one bowl of water that I change daily, and one bowl that I change every three or four days.

The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger. Blue Point (house cat).

They've got it in the computer now at Dr. Dürr's office, to the receptionist doesn't have to write it out every time I call. :D

And tell me, is he _not_ excellent, even with sand on his nose? (He was helping CMW and our gardener with a landscaping project -- in a most wiley and excellent way.)

13. Aww, I love bossy monkeys. Actually the reason I do this is
my last kitty, Nigel, perished from renal failure, which is common in older kitties, but he did not drink enough water, so I make sure my kitty has fresh water to drink. My current baby is so spoiled, that he will only drink out of a people glass--no bowl for him!

25. That's my protocol, too.
I have a multi-cat household and the water bowl can be a source of one catching what another has, so I change the bowls at least twice per day.

3. The kitties in this household drink water from a human glass.
Only that, when they are inside. Outside, they drink fro any flat surface that has water on it, concrete slab, leaf, whatever. They also like drinking water from large buckets outside, but from a small bowl? No effing way!

7. What is this "change water" of which you speak?
With 2 dogs and 3 cats, I just keep refilling the water and the food dish whenever they're empty.

I gave up trying to keep the dogs away from the cat food years ago. They all prefer the dry cat food, so that's what they all eat along with any human food they can scrounge.

10. Twice a day, but ....
"snarly butt" will only drink from the bathtub or faucet. So every time I go to the biffy, he follows along to get his dribble of sink water.

I swear, the animals have taken control here. I can't sleep, eat, or pee, without permission from one of them. I must twist into a pretzel and slip into my bed at night, so as not to disturb them. "Snarly butt" will actually come smack my head if I disturb him.

WHO IS PAYING THE RENT HERE, ANYWAY????

Little fuckers.

She finds it in the dog's water dish, which is filled with filtered water several times a day.

18. 2-3 times a day, minimum, for four kitties.

First thing in the morning (it is usually near empty by then), last thing at night and mid-day if it needs it and/or I remember.

I have one kitty who will not drink from the water dish unless he is standing in it with one paw. It would be funny but for the fact that if he has been in the litter box prior to standing in the water, the water gets all gross and it is a most excellent way to spread parasites to all the kitties. :( Or, if he goes to the litter box right after drinking, he gets a lovely litter encrusted paw and tracks litter chunks all over the house. Fortunately he also likes to drink from the bathroom fauce, so I try to encourage that behavior because it means he drinks from the communal water dish less. However, that of course means I am stranded on the toitie while he takes his time drinking from the faucet. :eyes:

20. at least twice a day. Change the water more often!
Yuk, water gets 'stale' - your cat deserves fresh water. Why the hell wouldn't you change water daily? Is it that much effort to do it? You feed her daily, change her water daily. Especially if you don't feed her any moist food, she needs fresh water. She can develop real health problems if she doesn't get enough moisture.

Are you joking?
