1. Here!
Can't post a pic, but if you go to http://www.brooksandbaker.com you can see my HD-28 LSV, circa 1999. Adirondack spruce top, large soundhole (a la Tony Rice), scalloped and forward-shifted braces.

And as we know, if it doesn't come from Nazareth, PA, it just ain't good enough. Nothing else is a Martin!

3. LOL I wondered how long it would take for you to appear, Bake! I almost felt as if I
called you out!

Your top has color-aged very nicely; black or tortoise shell pick guard?

I think I might visit Mecca (Nazareth) for the tour this summer!

13. Glad to be the first to get in the thread!
If you go to our website and click on the photos tab, there's a good shot of me and the LSV. It's the one with the sort of tiger-striped pickguard. It's a Tor-Tis pickguard which I put on it; the guitar came with the "mother of pepperoni" plate and I replaced it fairly quickly.

The top has aged nicely, and the Adirondack spruce has a really sweet, balanced tone - especially ow that it has some age and has "opened up."

hehe "mother of pepperoni". Luckily, mine came with a black one.

Bake, I don't remember if I confessed this to you before, but my OTHER guitar is a 12 string Taylor..... :hide:

26. Yeah, you did.
I have just been graceful enough not to harass you mercilessly about it.

A Taylor 12 is a fine instrument. And there's some music that just NEEDS a 12-string. I used to be partial to a Guild 12-string. Not sure if I've ever played a Martin 12.

35. LOL you have been too kind!
Yeah, I play with mostly 6 stringers, so it adds variety to the mix. And it's rosewood, so it has a great sound.

Of course, my previous 12 was a Guild JF55-12, but that was stolen from me...

And I'm sorry to say that I've played Martin 12s next to my old Guild.... Let's just say that Martin makes the best sounding 6 strings in the world. ;-)

37. Yeah, that was kinda my impression about Martin 12's too!
By the way, does the Taylor have a pickup? Their "Expression" system (I think that's the name) is just about the most natural-sounding acoustic-electric pickup system I've seen.

And I'm THIS CLOSE to dropping a Baggs I-Beam in the LSV ...

I used to use the Baggs Para D.I. for the Guild, but now it just sits dormant.

I have yet to drop electronics into the HD-28.

for the guitar to be heard at gigs. And I don't like having to play so hard just to be heard that I lose some "finesse."

I've got a nylon-string backpacker that I pull out from time to time. I usually play nylon-stringed acoustics (flamenco guitars), so I don't really have much use for most Martins, but I still like them.

45. Yamaha makes one very similar to that, too
I've played the Yamaha, and it's not bad. The only downside is that, in flamenco playing, you tap the soundboard fairly often with your fingers for percussive sounds-- which is a little hard to do when there's not a soundboard to tap.

For everything else, it fits the bill.

46. Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
Fender's had that plant since the 80's. The entry-to-midrange guitars are made there. The Corona, California plant makes the high-end guitars, as well as the Custom Shop axes.

I own 4 Mexican Fenders...a Strat, Tele, Jazz Bass, and a Precision Bass. Great, affordable planks.

And that he was to the stage of saddle height adjustment (which on a 12 string HAS to be a bitch and a half!)...

I'm having the LR Baggs Element pickup installed (since the bridge was going to be off anyway). I hear it's a great sounding system.

65. I swear by my NaftaCasters... you get more than what you pay for.
I've got an early 90s-era Mexi Strat I bought new, and a Mexi Tele. They are my main guitars. The only thing I've ever done with the Strat was to replace the pickups last year with a set of Fender Noiseless. I haven't done a think to the Tele since I bought it used a couple years ago for $200.

I don't mollycoddle my guitars-- I play them daily, and can be a bit rough on them. I don't want to worry about damaging a guitar I shelled out a month's pay for, so I tend to play mid-price models (plus I'm cheap). The Mexi Fenders fit that bill perfectly well, and have been surprisingly durable. And they sound really sweet through a decent 2x12 combo amp.

Otherwise, I don't typically buy very expensive guitars. I don't gig, so it would be kind of a waste.

67. You sound like me, amigo
I'm probably buying a Rickenbacker 360/12 in the next few months. I've been playing electrics for 26 years now, and I have yet to buy an electric over $700 in all that time. The Rick 12-string will be the first, but will be well worth waiting for.

64. An '04 00-18V and a '97 Bourgeois HD-28.
Both great. Both tweaked by a wonderful luthier ex-friend. Both magic.

68. I got a couple, I usually play electric, not so much acoustic
A BM acoustic bass, very nice woody tone similar to a standup bass.

Don't know what model this would be, gloss finish, very plain, doesn't have a paper label, has a wooden embossed plate on the neck heel that just says custom, great tone, very light weight.

73. I came *that* close to buying a Martin in '07 as a birthday present to myself....
...but something told me to hang onto the money, which two months later made the difference in buying a house.

I can live Martinless.
