I want to sing on stage.
Edited on Mon Feb-16-09 07:26 PM by Bertha Venation
Desperately.

I have a friend who's sung opera profesionally, and I want to follow suit.

I've never sung opera, and prolly never will. I've never sung professionally.

But I've sun amateurlishly (?) Amateurally (?) as an amateur. I love it. I still love it although I haven't done it for eight years.

I miss singing. I want to sing again.

DESPERATELY!

I need to audition somewhere.

!!!

That is all.

1. start small...
Find a local karaoke night at a bar near you. That will at least get you practice..as someone who has performed on stage a time or two, its something you want to get used to...:)

3. I have sung karaoke as a way to get over stage fright.
Last time I sang on stage was 93 - 00 with a community chorus. Whenever I had a solo, I sang karaoke to get over the state fright. I haven't though of singing karaoke for a long time, though. Good suggestion!

2. Have thee a local theater that does musicals? A local choir? Church choir?
Church choir isn't quite the same as singing on stage, but it's singing, anyway.

Karaoke?

4. Church choir is singing, and although I'm an atheist, I haven't ruled it out.
I can sing in a church choir in order to sing.

There's also community theater. A few years ago I almost auditioned for "Bye Bye Birdie," but life intervened. Maybe I'll yet audition for a production w/ Port Tobacco Players.

 thanks, Rabrrrrrrr

12. A church I used to be a member of had a bunch of Jews in the choir,
so why not atheists?

Probably a lot of choirs in the big churches in NYC have atheists, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, and so forth, so there's definitely precedent.

Good luck!!

Singing is fun.

And definitely also look around for community choirs - a great many places have them.

5. Yes, local theatre is a
good idea. Also, I have a friend who sings at wedding services. She is fabulous and could easily pass as "professional", although she has a day job. That may just be another option.

7. Thanks for the suggestion, but . . . . LOLOL
Edited on Mon Feb-16-09 07:41 PM by Bertha Venation
Last time I sang at a wedding, I sang at my sister's in 1981, and I cried mid-song.

That marriage broke up several years later.

Not that my singing had anything to do with it; it didn't.

I'd have to be a pro, or well-established in a church, in order to sing in a wedding now.

But I appreciate the suggestion. :)

:hi:

10. OMG me too
The last time I sang in public was at my friend's son's wedding five years ago. They divorced within a year. Wasn't my fault either! I swear!

6. Me too
I miss it desperately. (Did a lot of the theater and guitar/mic/stool thing when I was young.) Belting it out in the car and at home when no one else is around isn't quite the same.

9. ROFL
How DOES Stephen King sound, put to music?

I always forget to update and charge my iPod, so I'm subjected to the crap on the radio. Nothin' good to sing along with there.

Y'knnow, Patricia Cornwell has always terrified me more than King, anyway.

Which does not mean my singing it terrifying . . .

13. Go for it
find a community chorus or some other group.

I haven't played in a band or orchestra for 25 years and it's killing me, and I truly know how you feel. I played bassoon and instruments were so expensive, I played whatever the school and university had. When I graduated, I put my husband-at-the-time through grad school and there was never $$ to buy one. Now, 25 years later, the prices have increased dramatically and there's still no money. I've checked in to renting, but music stores don't rent them. Oh well.
