:hi: What song is more haunted than that?

Hey, I won't be coming down in April after all. The church group couldn't get enough people to make it economically feasible. :( Not sure when I'll get down now. I'd love to come down around JazzFest, that's my next date I'm aiming for. So maybe May? But I'm not as hopeful as I was for April. I'm sorry, Dear Friend. I was really looking forward to seeing you again.

12. Warren Zevon...."Accidently like a martyr"

The phone don't ring
And the sun refused to shine
Never thought I'd have to pay so dearly
For what was already mine
For such a long, long time

We made mad love
Shadow love
Random love
And abandoned love
Accidentally like a martyr
The hurt gets worse and the heart gets harder

The days slide by
Should have done, should have done, we all sigh
Never thought I'd ever be so lonely
After such a long, long time
Time out of mind

We made mad love
Shadow love
Random love
And abandoned love
Accidentally like a martyr
The hurt gets worse and the heart gets harder

a keen intellect; and a well-read, educated man, like Morrison but not nearly as self-destructively psychotic. Riders is among several incredibly haunting Doors songs....End of the Night, The Crystal Ship... Also, great call on Timothy, I'm amazed that anyone else remembers it. ( and apparently we're right about the same age, assuming you first heard it when it was on the charts briefly--about '65 or '66 wasn't it?)

36. Shadow of a Man
Oysterhead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgz5tEbwmGM&feature=related

Billy came back from Vietnam
Just a shadow of a man
He was a shadow of a man
When he came back from Vietnam
Billy came back from Vietnam
Just a shadow of a man
He was a shadow of a man
When he came back from Vietnam

He was spraying that Agent Orange
On the foliage of the land
Out of 80-gallon cans
Way back in Vietnam

Billy came back from Vietnam
Just a shadow of a man
He was a shadow of a man
When he came back from Vietnam

He married him up a woman that he
Like to call Diane
Though her true name was Mai-Pan
She changed her name to Mrs. Graham
After two stillborn babies
Billy said I am just a portion of the man
I was before I went to Nam
Now he drinks and snorts amphetamine
Just as often as he can
He's a shadow of a man
Spent his time in Vietnam

Billy came back from Vietnam
Just a shadow of a man
He was a shadow of a man
When he came back from Vietnam

peace~

51. Haunting the Chapel - Slayer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCXjinjJv9w

The holy cross, symbol of lies
Intimidate the lives of christian born
Speak of death, the words of hate
Anticipation grows amongst the dead
Hell has seen the priests attempt
To bring forth their lord of the cross
Strike of twelve, raise the dead
The chapel comes under attack

The ghosts of sin torment the priests
Their altar will soon be destroyed
Heaven's palace turning black
The church now delongs to the dead
Blackened magic infest with lust
Lucifer rules supreme
The crystal ball shows unknown fate
The last thing that's heard is the screams

Ghosts from Hell invade this feeble shrine
Heaven's holy house will fall in time
Satan's morbid soldiers chant in lust
Destruction of the church we'll burn the cross

Attacking angels as they pray to God
Tormented preachers hail the twisted cross
Haunting the chapel Hell's demons prevail
Death has come, the house of God has failed.

61. "Hex" by Neko Case
Edited on Tue Feb-10-09 08:06 AM by Richardo
One of the most unsettling "woman scorned" songs I've ever heard.

No real good videos, but here are the lyrics:

"Hex"

When you hear me calling your name in the night
Do you run to your window thinking a coyote might
Be howling

When you hear me knocking at your door again
Do you tell yourself it's only the wind
That's blowing

When you watch the sun sink down in the west
Do you tell yourself that the heart in your chest
Is still beating

Will you know or must I tell you
This is my lover's spell you have fallen into
My dear
My voice is all you'll hear

Only the sound of my heart pounding, darling

You took my heart
Cast it aside
Laughed when I cried
Like it was just no big deal
And here all alone in the dark
I know just how you feel

When you feel my fingers touch your skin again
Do you tell yourself there's just no use
In crying

When the stars in the sky begin to fade
Do you tell yourself, don't be afraid
It's just the night
That's dying

Will you know or must I tell you
This is my lover's spell you have fallen into, my dear
My voice is all you'll hear

Edited on Tue Feb-10-09 08:36 AM by Mother Of Four
But my dad used to sing it to me (It came out in the 70's by Jeff Moss), and then I sang it to my children.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIq8jLj5TzU

This next one I played on the little 45 I had of it, until it wouldn't play anymore.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd_Fdly3rX8 Though many have tried no one can do it like Terry Jacks. "Seasons in the sun"

This one makes me cry-

I hope you don't think I'm silly if I tell you I get choked up when I hear it.

My dad passed away in 98, and I'm still not "over" it. I was a complete daddy's girl

He would also sing this...

(To the tune of Rockin Robin.)

Well the round teddy bear
And the tall giraffe
A shuckin and A'jivin And A startin to laugh
Liddle girl's a pattin and a rollin that dough
Everrrrybody's singin to her go baby go-
Bakin Baby! (whistle whistle)
Bakin Baby!

Hope there's someone
Who'll take care of me
When I die, will I go

Hope there's someone
Who'll set my heart free
Nice to hold when I'm tired

There's a ghost on the horizon
When I go to bed
How can I fall asleep at night
How will I rest my head

Oh I'm scared of the middle place
Between light and nowhere
I don't want to be the one
Left in there, left in there

There's a man on the horizon
Wish that I'd go to bed
If I fall to his feet tonight
Will allow rest my head

So here's hoping I will not drown
Or paralyze in light
And godsend I don't want to go
To the seal's watershed

Hope there's someone
Who'll take care of me
When I die, Will I go

Hope there's someone
Who'll set my heart free
Nice to hold when I'm tired

really anything by them

65. Oh, that's easy
It's been going through my mind for the past few days. Prolly because of the month.

Am leaving, disappointed. In tears, even.

What fun we had in those days.

72. I forgot
Hazard by Richard Marx

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgJffiGHz7M

My mother came to Hazard when I was just seven
Even then the folks in town said with prejudiced eyes
That boy's not right ...
Three years ago when I came to know Mary
First time that someone looked beyond the rumours and the lies
And saw the man inside ...
We used to walk down by the river
She loved to watch the sun go down
We used to walk along the river
And dream our way out of this town ...
No one understood what I felt for Mary
No one cared until the night she went out walking alone
And never came home ...
Man with a badge came knocking next morning
Here was I surrounded by a thousand fingers suddenly
Pointed right at me ...
I swear I left her by the river
I swear I left her safe and sound
I need to make it to the river
And leave this old Nebraska town
I think about my life gone by
And how it's done me wrong
There's no escape for me this time
All of my rescues are gone, long gone
I swear I left her by the river
I swear I left her safe and sound
I need to make it to the river
And leave this old Nebraska town ...

87. Here's a "haunting" lullabye my mother sang to me in the 1950's....
I think it originally dates from the late 1940's and Sammy Kaye's band.

"Serenade of the Bells" is a special old song.
