Cat tales: the cat went to get spayed
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 09:32 AM by Jack Rabbit
EDITED for typing

Yesterday, my son, who is grown, took his one-year-old cat, Iko, in to get spayed.

It seemed that it was time to get Iko spayed. This charming black kitty was rescued by some friends of my son's from an abandoned litter. She was given to my son she she was about three months old when his friends prepared to move to an apartment that doesn't allow pets.

We can tell that she never knew her mother very well. She doesn't respond to certain stimuli that many cats do, like a purring sound. Nevertheless, she is a playful and affectionate kitty. As of late, she has been a bit mischievous, too. She had taken to spraying outside her litter box and knocking things over. We thought it was early signs of heat and that she would be more manageable once she was spayed.

My son, accompanied by my SO, took her to the veterinary school at the local university, which has a fine reputation. There, Iko was given a thorough inspection. The student who inspected him said she wanted to check one last thing. She checked that one last thing and found a thing! It seems that Iko's testicles only now were starting to drop.

Instead of being spayed, Iko was clipped.

Now we call the cat Ike. Yes, it's a funny name for a cat in a house full of Democrats, but we love her him all the same.

1. I thought Abbie was a girl at first
Until I saw her, I mean him, lick his pee-pee.

He wasn't named at that time, so at least he wasn't yet attached to a name (technically his name is Abbott)

2. So does this mean
s/he is having a gender identity crisis? Does it mean s/he will be treated differently by humankind?

3. Cat was the same way...
We took him to the vet for another procedure and the vet called and said, "Do you want your cat neutered?" I said, "Don't you mean spayed?" He laughed and said, "No, neutered. Your cat is a boy."

Damn good thing "CAT" is gender neutral.
